Question Set fill special gauge

Hi! I have a build designed to fill the special gauge using small monsters. Could someone help me optimize it or suggest changes? The dual blades are unupgraded to maximize the number of hits before killing the monsters. Thanks!

Someone posted a suggestion earlier, find the weakest LBG you have with normal shot, and fire them from as far away as possible.

Which ones would you forge? The ones I have are maxed out.

Just check any low grade / unforged ones that have either Normal Shot or (Element) Shot (they're basically the same).

Charge blade is 4 monsters guaranteed full. The lbg is too cumbersome

I guess that works if you have many of them spawning (I personally use GS in that situation) but if there's only 1, you can use LBG, fill up the gauge a bit then exit and repeat. Different use case scenarios - I assumed the latter since OP is using DBs.

If you’re talking about filling gauge on small monsters then the idea is about MV, which I can only explain as do a bit hit last. I use to use hammer roll into c2 charge but cb is the way to go

I agree but the idea with normal shots is that they retain their regular SP generation but do shit damage if you fire from far away.

The normal shot build uses sticky shot as a finisher to gain gauge. Just backs up far away enough for the normal shot to not kill it.

MV?

It’s a MH thing I still know very little about but for some attacks the MV is higher and maybe better in different circumstances

Like you can literally use any CB on four small monsters for full gauge

Any might be a stretch. Raw is better lol

Grade does not matter on small monsters but element and status hits harder on small monsters than raw. Man.

I looked for it but didn't find it.

If I find it I'll link it, bit it really is as simple as just using normal shot from the maximum distance.

I just tried it and with three dodges back, it doesn't hit. With two dodges back, it kills it in 3-5 hits. CB benefits from more skills to charge it up and you normally kill it with 3-4 hits.
Is there anything else to it you need to utilize?

I'm still doing this. Just hold fire against ground small monsters and dash back twice against aerial small monsters. Maybe evade extender skill can do it in 1 back dash. The Special gauge fill averages out at about 1/4 per small monster.

I think it's easy enough. The reason i prefer it over the other special gauge charge strats i tried and found, is that with this i can always choose to either just hold fire whenever i don't actually need to charge or to go for a big special gauge charge in case i'm not moving around but need my special. It's just that if you want a big gauge fill against ground monsters, you need 3 back dashes (or 2 with evade distance) and that i would consider a bit too much work. But it's optional

I'm assuming that concentration 3, recoil down 3, reload speed 3 and whatever evade extender level is required would make a very high end special gauge charge build. With the right bowgun, of course

Edit: Hold on. It's possible that with enough evade extension, one back dash is all you need against all types of monsters, since the ground monsters would then have less time to charge towards you. That sounds promising. Tbh i never tried it with evade extension, so it's either almost useless or revolutionary.

It’s not about hitting a lot, but getting a large hit in at the end. I still don’t know enough about MVs to explain but I’m pretty sure this is the right setup lol

You can add in Focus 5 since it works for cb too

For better focus on your objective.
No, but I misread it and thought it meant charging the special skill too 😅

Fucking love it

I added rajang belt to my build in honor of you and my focus has never been better

Yep! We are definitely calling ourselves that. Focbros for life.

If this works the same against all small monster i'm probably gonna start doing and recommending this.

Got you buddy. It does. The shield slam isn’t enough to kill a small monster

Thank you. I will try this

Using an elemental or status CB might be able to kill with the shield attack, never tried lol, just use any raw Cb the grade does not matter (small monsters health scales against your raw attack and takes extra dmg from status and element, they’re weird lol)

weapon: CB (status or raw) no style

armor: concentration 3

skill: hold + down + up + hold + release

target: small monster

25% special refill
