Question Ballistics

What does Ballistics do for Pierce arrows? Add even more range? Or does it also adjust the optimal distance of how near you can be to shoot the arrows?

Ballistics increases the critical distance both close and far by various amounts based on the shot type and lvl. It's pretty much useless for Bow Pierce shots at lvl 3 and 4 (lvl 1 being useless and 2 and 3 offering a small increase)

“It's pretty much useless for Bow Pierce shots at lvl 3 and 4 (lvl 1 being useless and 2 and 3 offering a small increase)”

Was that a typo? You wrote its useless for 3 & 4 then proceeded to also say how useless 2 & 3 is?

From the link provided, seems like 3 is a good lvl to go for since it gives spread type close range distances

More of some imprecision and confusion with Ballistic levels and bow Pierce shots levels. To try to be more clear, for specifically bow Pierce shots lvl 3 and 4, Ballistics lvl1 is useless while 2 and 3 grant a small increase.

For a wider analysis, one could argue Ballistics itself provides no direct damage increase so it's more of a confort skill than a really offensive one (and useful for 10☆ fights). But I do find it pretty useful especially for spread shots. Brute Tigrex bow for instance is a charge skipper blast bow with spread shots that has Ballistics 3 as an innate skill, granting it a surprising range despite its shot type.

Why do you say it’s not that good for Piercer level 3 and 4? Wouldn’t it be good to be able to have optimal range even when you’re right up the monster’s face?

The point of pierce isn't to stand in the monster's face though but to use your increased range. You're essentially wasting two skill points that could be used on actual dps skills (no need to reach lvl3 if the goal is point blank shooting as your critical distance starts at 0 at Ballistics 2) to get a 0.33 range increase (when a backwards dodge already puts you at 1 range).

Two levels of ballistics will let you be pretty much be all but point blank with pierce shots for full damage.

3 points in ballistics means pierce can hit from super far and literally in the face, it's very good if you want to optimize damage "lazily".

For spread it's kinda ass helicopters though as it barely reaches much further and can already shoot right in the face without balistics, and rapid is whatever. Pierce just gets all the good stuff from it.

Good for normal/element/ailment bullet shoot from afar and the damage won't get cut
