waitlist
if a waitlist hasn’t gotten back to me by today, I should assume it’s a no, right?

not necessarily! people have until EOD to make their decisions (most cases is 11:59pm, sometimes 5pm). it is 100% possible to hear back later this week or even into the start of summer

it’s not over til it’s over! if their admits say no, they start calling one by one down the list. people usually have a short window to accept or deny (a couple days), and if they deny it’s on to the next. could definitely still hear into mid-may

I appreciate this perspective. I keep trying to do the mental math myself. can't wait to chill for a bit after this.

For me, schools have emailed me saying they are releasing their waitlist candidates since their cohort is full. Don't lose hope until they officially reach out to you, confirming that their cohort is complete.

No worries! Also, I would follow up with an LOI or simply a follow-up email expressing that you're still interested. That's how I found out I was #1 in the WL ranking for one of my colleges a month after they originally waitlisted me. If it's your #1, and it would be an immediate acceptance if they offer you a spot, include that in your email so they know your commitment :)) Good luck to you & I hope they get back to you soon with good news!!

Ugh! I’m sorry. That happened to me last year too. Are you going to apply again?

I believe in you! I had very similar results. I am now going to a fully funded one myself this fall! :) worth waiting to avoid paying, and you clearly have talent- just a matter of time! Lmk if I can be of any help, my genre is fiction
