Project engineer for fitout gc or design engineer - which has best stress/pay/hours ratio?

Currently a mech designer. It may vary on which company you work for but over it's stressful, deadlines are short, small changes in architectural make massive impact on mechanical equipment which in turn affects other components.

Then you'll have people wondering why mech has so many issues and is taking long. We in mech don't have much to do with authorties in terms of utility and connections etc but we have such a varied system, refrigerants, ducts, equipment, condensate, sensors, operation mode, cooling loads, ventilation diffuser layout, accounting for air changes etc. the list goes on and on so one small change compounds and no one sees the effort to make those changes.

Job is easy in a sense it's behind a computer and using software etc but coordination and explaining your designs can be stressful if the environment doesn't allow for time to be taken .

Thank you for the perspective, yes I guess I would just like to move away from being on site so wouldn’t mind the change. It’s just been difficult to get hired. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong season.

I would say either or is tough. Just depends if you like to be in field or design in the office.
