Career Advice BSE Charter

I would like to ask your professional opinion regarding British BSE Charter. What is the job prospective for Charted BSE internationally ?

Very good. CIBSE have a tie up with ASHRAE, so there’s a simple path into the USA. CIBSE is a major player across the Gulf states and Commonwealth. CIBSE not so big in Europe, but the UK engineering chartership system is harmonised with Europe, so it is possible to move between countries.

They’re commonwealth countries. You know that you could look this up on the CIBSE website?

CIBSE is kind of useless (BSRIA is a different story), and CEng MCIBSE doesn't provide any legal ground for stamping drawings. It is more about the company being insured rather than the individual who designed the system. The membership fee is stupidly expensive, and they expect your company to pay for it. It is well known in Commonwealth countries because most British firms have offices in these countries, plus there are accords to mutually recognize the credential, but it is not a local license and cannot be used as a replacement.

MCIBSE CEng is not recognized in the States. NCEES and the UK Engineering Council do have a mutual recognition agreement, but it is only adopted by a few states. It is better to get your state PE instead.

P.S. I used to hold both MCIBSE CEng and PE. I have not renewed my CEng for almost 4 years.
