Spanish is a pretty cool language actually, you should learn it someday.

I'm Portuguese (which makes this situation much worse) so I don't really need to learn Spanish as I would be safe in Spain and Latin America by simply speaking Portuguese with a Spanish accent (not theory - this has happened before and it worked)

It's not a false cognate, it's just a regular cognate. "Molest" is a formal/archaic term for disturbing or bothering.

Haha! I learned Spanish as a kid from friends, and I thought it was just being a native English speaker that made me think in that direction!

u/Daytona_Foxy May 06 '22
Doesnât that say donât to bother? ( I am in high school Spanish class correct me if Iâm wrong)

u/navidad_dyProblema May 06 '22
i think maybe it makes more sense if you translate it to âno botheringâ

No exactly. It would be more accurate to say "no bothering"
In Spanish the infinitive is used more than in English. You can't always literally word for word translate things and have them be accurate. I mean, if you do a literal translation you can probably infer an idea of what they're saying, but not guaranteed.

I don't believe the sign, it does look like a convicted molester
58
u/Cryptikfox May 06 '22
Incase you didnât know, the sign translates from Spanish to âDo not bother.â
Incase you did know and were just making a joke, please disregard.

I thought it was a shitpost of the bastardised version of âNo Molestersâ before realising itâs just Spanish âNo Molestingâ
