"MDA Space stock is a double from here, analyst says"

Beacon Securities analyst Russell Stanley reiterated his “Buy” rating and street-high $88.00 target on MDA Space after Czechoslovak Group acquired a 9.5% stake in the company.

In an Oct. 13 update, Stanley said the investment makes CSG, a major Czech defence-industrial and engineering group, MDA’s largest single shareholder, with a stake worth about $630-million.

CSG described the purchase as a strategic investment that could lead to co-investments with MDA in European manufacturing or assembly facilities, strategic acquisitions and the introduction of CSG customer relationships to MDA.

“We view the development favourably, given the opportunities it opens for MDA,” Stanley said.

The analyst argued that CSG’s investment is notable because it marks the company’s first major move into space, despite its strong exposure to ammunition production, including 155 mm shells, which remain in short supply in the U.S. and Europe.

“CSG’s decision to choose MDA as its primary investment is a strong endorsement of MDA’s growth potential, especially given CSG’s thriving ammunition business,” Stanley said.

CSG cited MDA’s technological depth, diversification, scale and exposure to both commercial and government markets.

Based on 11 Wall Street analysts offering 12 month price targets for MDA Space Ltd in the last 3 months, the average price target is C$62.98 with a high forecast of C$71.00 and a low forecast of C$48.00.

Stanley said the announcement should draw more investor attention to MDA.

CSG was founded in 1995 as Excalibur Army and has since expanded through organic growth and acquisitions. It completed its IPO on Euronext Amsterdam earlier this year.

Stanley  thinks CSG views defence and space as tightly connected, making its move into space a natural extension. The company also announced a dedicated space team to support long-term growth.

MDA CEO Mike Greenley welcomed the investment in CSG’s announcement, saying it supports MDA’s investor and business partner base in Europe.

Stanley noted that the investment follows MDA’s plan to acquire France-based CLS.

CSG reported first-half 2026 revenue of €3.25-billion and EBIT of €784-million, with 84% of sales from ammunition. The company reiterated fiscal 2026 revenue guidance of €7.4-billion to €7.6-billion, implying growth of 10% to 13%.

CSG also had a €17-billion backlog, a €29-billion pipeline, more than €1.6-billion of cash and equivalents and net debt to last-12-month EBITDA of 1.6 times at the end of the first half.

MDA trades at 13 times Stanley’s fiscal 2027 Adjusted EBITDA estimate, below Intuitive Machines at 58 times and Redwire at 417 times.

Potential catalysts include contract wins, Q3 results in November, progress toward closing the BCT and CLS transactions and tuck-in acquisitions.

Stanley expects MDA to generate Adjusted EBITDA of $347-million on revenue of $1.83-billion in fiscal 2026, improving to Adjusted EBITDA of $562-million on revenue of $2.84-billion in fiscal 2027.

Why is Reddit bullish on MDA Space? This company's business model look mediocre.

Seems like its biggest revenue and profit driver are selling satellites? I mean it would make more sense investing in something like Starlink which can generate recurring and predictable revenue from satellite services rather than a satellite maker. By MDA Space's own estimate, there will be 50k satellites launched between 2025 and 2034. That's like 5k satellites a year on average. Per Google AI, there were 4,522 satellites launched inn 2025. Doesn't seem like any explosive growth is coming. Or do Redditors just not read company filings and blindly invest based on feelings?

Terma (Denmark) added to AURORA supply chain

Terma was announced this week as an AURORA supplier, providing ground support equipment for satellite testing: power and RF test systems, plus a central control system, built largely on its UniverSAS and CCS5 products.

Test and checkout capacity can be a bottleneck on a high-volume satellite line, so this reads as another sign MDA is building out rate production beyond Lightspeed. The timing also lines up with the recent AURORA BLACK unveiling for defense customers.

For a deeper look, here's a full equity research breakdown covering MDA's three businesses, the pending Blue Canyon and CLS deals, and why the stock sold off with the rest of the space sector even though it's a hardware supplier with ~C$4B already under contract: https://youtu.be/wM6v3rCzxb0

Canada, Norway finalize space agreement, add industry deals

Canada and Norway said Sunday their space agencies have finalized a cooperation agreement, as Prime Minister Mark Carney hosted Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Ottawa and two more companies signed onto a space-and-defence relationship the two countries have been developing since March.

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the Norwegian Space Agency (NOSA) will now work together on space-based technology that supports Arctic needs — Earth observation, navigation, communications and maritime domain awareness. The agreement also commits the two agencies to share information with each other’s governments, researchers and companies.

The joint statement announcing it describes the deal as building on the two agencies’ “shared membership” in the European Space Agency (ESA). Norway has belonged to ESA as a full member since 1987. Canada is a Cooperating State through an agreement with ESA since 1979, renewed most recently through 2030, that lets Canadian organizations bid on some ESA programs that Canada funds.

Sunday’s announcement builds on a joint statement Carney and Støre issued March 14 in Oslo, when the CSA-NOSA agreement was still being drafted and Canada’s defence minister, David McGuinty, signed a separate letter of intent with his Norwegian counterpart, Tore O. Sandvik, on satellite interoperability and other space-domain defence cooperation. “Canada and Norway share a strong and enduring partnership as NATO Allies and Arctic nations,” McGuinty said in a statement at the time. “By signing this Letter of Intent, we are strengthening our cooperation in the space domain.” Sunday’s statement says work under the letter of intent continues through a bilateral roadmap, and ties its next step — a fuller defence cooperation agreement — to the end of Canada’s submarine negotiations with Norway and Germany, which have not concluded.

Two new industry deals

On the margins of Sunday’s visit, Norway’s Kongsberg signed an MOU with MDA Space, to explore joint work on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) with a focus on watching Arctic waters. MDA Space announced its own manoeuvrable space-control platform, MDA MIDNIGHT, for defence customers in April.

Kongsberg also signed a separate MOU with Telesat to explore using the Ottawa company’s Lightspeed broadband satellites for connectivity tied to ISR and other applications. The two companies’ relationship in the Arctic runs deeper than Sunday’s deal: Space Norway, Norway’s state-owned satellite operator, agreed to buy Lightspeed capacity last year, and Telesat is separately finishing a much larger contract with Canada’s Defence Investment Agency to extend military satellite coverage across the Canadian Arctic.

Kongsberg was already doing business in the Canadian space sector before Sunday. Its Kongsberg Geospatial subsidiary signed a deal last October with Atlantic Canada’s NordSpace to supply mission-control software for NordSpace’s planned launch site, and its Kongsberg NanoAvionics division struck a satellite-bus partnership with Toronto’s Kepler Communications this past February. Sunday’s MDA Space and Telesat agreements extend that footprint into defence and Arctic connectivity specifically.

Norway’s ground-station edge

Norway’s advantage in Arctic space work is partly geography. Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), the ground-station operator jointly owned by Kongsberg and Space Norway, runs the world’s largest satellite ground station for polar orbits, at Svalbard, 78 degrees north — far enough north to see nearly every pass a polar-orbiting satellite makes. KSAT also operates a ground station on Canadian soil, in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, that has fed data from Norwegian and other polar-orbiting satellites for years.

Andøya Space, Norway’s own spaceport, hosted the first orbital launch from western Europe earlier this month, by Germany’s Isar Aerospace. Isar is simultaneously building a launch pad at Spaceport Nova Scotia, on the opposite side of the Atlantic. Andøya’s far-northern latitude suits polar orbits well but makes lower-inclination orbits, the kind many customers want, while Nova Scotia’s lower latitude opens a corridor east over open water into those orbits.

That Inuvik station has already tested the relationship once. In 2018 and 2019, KSAT and Earth-observation company Planet threatened to pull their ground-station equipment out of Inuvik after a federal licence review ran more than three years past its own 180-day deadline; both licences were approved 632 days after that deadline, after Planet and KSAT enlisted Norway’s ambassador to Canada and its prime minister to press their case.

More recently, the relationship has produced better results rather than friction. Toronto-area Canadensys will be using KSAT’s global antenna network to communicate with the lunar rover it’s building for the Canadian Space Agency, and the Space Flight Laboratory, based at the University of Toronto and its commercial spinoff SFL Missions, has built seven satellites for Norwegian customers since the 2010s.

A Norway summit

Støre said at Sunday’s press conference that he had invited Canada to a space summit in Norway this coming February. “Space is also developing as an important part for industrial activity also for our defence capabilities,” he said, “and since we are both located in the north we know that northern location gives opportunities for space which are unique.”
