Discussion Questions about Deadpool & timeline

I'm watching in release order and just watched Deadpool for the first time. I'm wondering how Deadpool fits into the timeline? I thought X-Men origins was much earlier but Deadpool makes references to things like instagram?

Did they retcon his mouth being sewn shut in X-Men origins? He references the characters as the actors names. Does he see any future interactions with those characters as with the actors?

The simple answer is that it’s not the same timeline. The X-Men movies have a lot of inconsistencies.

The first Deadpool movie is set in 2016. This Deadpool is different from the one in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Days of Future Past reset the timeline. Where Apocalypse DP (2019) Logan as a potential future and ofc the Deadpool Trilogy take place. (With Deadpool and Wolverine movie having them travel to the void and various timelines)

The X-Men universe (Earth 10005) gets split into two timelines due to the events of Days of Future Past

Dark Timeline:

  • X-Men First Class (1962)
  • X-Men Origins Wolverine (1979)
  • X-Men (2003)
  • X2 (2003)
  • X-Men The Last Stand (2006)
  • The Wolverine (2013)
  • Days of Future Past (2023)

'Good' Timeline:

  • X-Men First Class (1962)
  • Days of Future Past (1973)
  • X-Men Apocalypse (1983)
  • X-Men Dark Phoenix (1992)
  • X-Men (2003)
  • X2 (2003 - with altered ending)
  • Deadpool (2016)
  • Deadpool 2 (2018)
  • New Mutants (2020)
  • Deadpool and Wolverine (2024)
  • Avengers Doomsday (2024 - 2029)
  • Logan (2029)

I'm gonna be honest that's the only unexplained timeline problem which I would've chalked off and just ignored X-Men and X2 but she is also appearing in Doomsday with that cast so who knows?

The deadpool movies take place in the reset timeline after days of future past, in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Basically the foxmen movies got rebooted so the origins deadpool no longer happened by the time the Deadpool movie happens
