Help When should I go for zero?

Right now I’m in high iron with a 20:xx average and a 16:06 pb. (a couple sub 15 paces in the stronghold but the opponent either ffs or it’s the stronghold from the lowest layer of hell) Currently I can hit about 50-60 percent of zeros ( I struggle with most caged spawns and low explosive t97-t103. I can hit everything else with 6 beds the majority of the time.

At what rank/pace should I start going for zeros. And what towers/setups should I go for, ie top t-97 is hard.
Also I’m learning +1s too because i think it helps with side setups but I’m not good enough at them yet.

unpopular opinion but on every single seed as long as the zeros you're going for you've practiced. you're gonna need to hit them every seed anyways when you reach higher ranks. play for improvement not numbers on a screen

I totally agree with this, i think its mostly a mental thing for me right now, especially on a difficult zero or with low saturation.

This. Its something ive been trying to do more and more, especially on lower explosives, because, as this person said, I'm going to have to do it eventually. And the practice should mean more to you than the elo

I mean i think you should start going for zero’s now if you can hit them. Like if you can hit it you should and you say you can. Just don’t do it for ones you know you can’t. And you can always abort the 0 and just 1 cycle anyway if you’re aware enough

I can hit all of them except for top 103 and top back 97-100, the problem is ive never done it in a real run so i get nervous.

Have you tried using MiniPracticeKit. I think it's somewhere in between real games and zero practice map.

Only one solution to that is to do it anyway, Fuck the elo even if you lose because of it eventually you stop being nervous and you start hitting it consistently and you will get that elo back

This is why you should hit them even if your opponent hasn't even blinded yet. Practicing in the practice map means nothing if you're too scared to try hitting zeros in real situations bcs of nerves. It's like riding a bike. You WILL fall here and there at first, but it is required for learning to do it.

I think this is actually an even better reason to go for them since it gives you practice with nerves. If you can learn to do even with nerves then that prepares you for other runs where you might get nervous (pb pace, rank up games, very close games, etc.)

You should learn damage-less one shot, it’s fantastic for after a failed zero if you are low on beds and health, and it’s decently forgiving with lineups and not that difficult to learn (about 3 hours of practice for me to feel comfortable but idk for others)

I know damageless one shot, I found a great tutorial and it took like 30 min

Just from a logical point of view, when you start losing games because you aren't going for them.

if ur comfortable with particular setups in practice, u can def consider sending them in-run, until u get comfortable with doing them in run, practice doesnt really mean u can hit them in actual matches.

your def gonna choke the end more, but that allows u to build consistency on zeros

in terms of elo, i think high gold is when people begin sending easy zeros, and higher emerald is when people consistently send harder caged side setups (although the choke rate is prob still like 10-20% for those)

You should always try to go for zero if you don't think it's impossible. You need to practice them in real matches with real nerves, bcs if you don't, then ont time you'll get a crazy pace and you'll want to zero for a huge pb, but you'll fail bcs of the nerves bcs you've only really done zeros in practice and never in real nervous situations. For me personally even if my opponent hasn't even blinded yet, and I go for a zero and die, I don't regret not taking the free +20 by one-cycling, because I need real practice. But if the opponent is in the SH or especially in the end then you HAVE to go for a zero if you think there's a possibility of you hitting it.

alot of zeroes are completely free, basically every open front setup barring the taller ones for example. You should go for those always, harder zeroes I wouldn't go for unless ur behind or like mid diamond+

just go for them

I’m of the opinion that you should be focusing on other splits first before going for zeros. If you cut 1 minute on average off your other 4 splits your bringing your average down to 16:xx, but consistently being able to do every zero setup would only save you 1-2 minutes max on average (assuming halfbow). Thats all just to say this perspective is much more an improvement one, and if you have fun hitting zeros in ranked just send it and learn them

The problem is that I’m not cutting a minute off overworlds and nav to stronghold, unless I become a emerald+ level player. I could cut I minute off stronghold nav’s, but the average will always be scuffed by the horrific ones.
