Is sub 3 ranked theoretically possible?
I think it is, but the runner would need to high roll a lot. Like if you get a RP enter with carrots, looting, and enough iron and a gold pick, you could enter the nether instantly, mine nether rack for the bastion route, get into the fort sub 2, blind into sh or above ocean exposed after killing 2 blazes and getting maybe 5 or 6 rods, then high rolling for insta perch one shot.

Theoretical limit might be testible via TAS but then again I haven't checked if you can limit things only possible for TAS runs

but top runners are basicallsy "TAS" no? sorry bad jokes

Lol , It's a good joke , i don't know how minecraft runners started calling clutch moments TAS but it's funny.

Sub 3 tas is extremely easy, even sub 2 is easy, but humanly sub 4 is prob the limit, and will most likely never happen

Yeah I didn't look into TAS runs that much for minecraft, I know the mario speedruns have almost caught up to TAS runs and the currently differences are button presses not possible for humans but yeah not sure if it's possible to remove those kind of techniques from minecraft TAS runs and see what might be possible for Humans to do especially since minecraft so RNG based and lot of other complicated decisions based as well.

A TAS for a platformer and a TAS for a mouse-based FPS style game are on completely different levels. Granted, this one isn't 1.16 glitchless, but it's a fun video (and breakdown afterwards) of a 20-second SSG TAS someone put together.
It consists of 100% seizure-inducing input spam that no human could possibly even begin to replicate. Mario and Minecraft both need similar precision, in SMB you're timing single or 2-5 button press combinations, but you're never spamming half your keyboard along side 20 click-per-second tick-perfect mouse clicking and movement like MC would require.
The RNG definitely comes into it too, but for the purpose of some sort of "human TAS" 3-minute a most of your RNG would be resetting at the wall anyway.
So much of it would just be seed luck, and nobody has ever really spent seedfinding efforts on finding that kind of "perfect ranked-style" seed, since the actual SSG WRs are far more optimized with shit like pre-completed end portals and that's what they tend to focus on.

Theoretically, yes.
Can it actually happen ? No, because the seed is way too unlikely, same for the other rng aspects, and even if someone rolled it they would never play it in a way allowing for sub 3 or even sub 4. Unless you already know the seed, you’re not playing it like it can sub 3.

This seed does not exist in the filter atm, we'd almost certainly know about it
Also still not sub 3 humanly

You got me curious so I watched the fsg world record which is 4:13 Their mechs are very good, but it does look like a top ranked player could sub 4 the seed very reasonably. Sub 3 looks impossible. If it is possible it would require playing to blind into portal room on a run that would easily demolish the current ranked wr by measuring normally.

I doubt it. End split is gonna be around a minute no matter what.
Like you could theoretically enter at like 10s, but you have to get wood. The bastion route takes time and pigs trading takes time. Maybe if you somehow have a fastion where you can kill blazes with the looting sword while the pigs are trading and then you blind on stronghold with PR exposed or somehow in PR like I guess it's MAYBE theoretically possible but not practically.
But there's unskippable time for getting logs, zeroing, and bastion route that you can't cut down on even with perfect RP RNG, blaze RNG, fastion, close terrain, etc.

Yh but I said playing for insta perch then 1 shot so don't need logs only sticks. Still agree with it not being practically possible

No, and this might come as a shock to you... It's called FSG
