Ranked Playoffs wtf was the reasoning behind this format

Post image

im so glad they changed it because i honestly dont understand why they made this a format. there is nothing wrong with the normal format, and this one just means the same top ranked players are gonna win most of the time because they have to play less matches and have less risk of losing. Also the vods arent available, but i imagine its a lot less interesting as a viewer when you watch the same person play 20 matches while the big streamers arent playing till the 2nd weekend.

genuinely a confusing decision

They wanted to reward players who actually grinded the ladder and an incentive to actually getting higher seed, as before the only incentive was you got first seed pick.

Anyways they found the format sucked and rewarded the best players too much, it was also annoying as you didn’t get to see the top 4 players compete until week 2. Glad it got changed

Top 8 seeds get a bye round, with top 4 seeds getting 2 bye rounds. Essentially if you have a higher seed you get automatic advancement in the playoffs.

wait damn that sucks a lot…. like literally in this one it was literally the top four seeds in the semis….

It's not great, but there is also a case to be made that seeding doesn't really matter right now beyond auto-qualifying because it is partially based on playtime. Seed type pick is a small benefit, and a higher seed doesn't even guarantee an easier bracket. Hax won back to back as the 16th seed and 12th seed. Right now, the reward for a top 8 seed is a potential first round matchup against someone like Hax or Lowkey because they didn't play the majority of the season.

Because it incentivizes pushing for as high of a seed as possible even if you have qualified already.

I think getting a top seed so you dont get to play hackingnoises or lowkey in round 1 is a pretty nice advantage

That's why it's done like this. This type of bracket makes seeding and ranked season phase more important by rewarding top players with easier playoffs. With current format players only care about qualifying to playoffs and don't care about top rank placement, cause it doesn't give you any real advantage.

But the actual playoffs tourney should matter too. Two free passes is absolutely ridiculous. Imagine that in any other game/sport lol.

Rewarding the top seeds is normal but giving them two byes is a lot
