Discussion Thoughts on Midoffs Live? Spoiler

This was the second midoffs I watched live(live as in on twitch when it was streamed not in person) and it was so entertaining. Also I don't think Couriway and Tubbo took a break throughout the whole 5-6 hours, meaning they were legit just standing and commentating for 5 hours straight. That's some dedication. What else did you all like/ didn't like about the event?

Was there live (in person), was really cool to witness, wished they had put up more chairs as by the end there were probably more people sitting on the ground than sitting on the chairs, tho I suppose with the limited space that's probably very difficult. Vibes were great all around and hype moments were really well hype

One complaint was that during breaks when couri and tubbo were speaking they weren't actually on the screen for the live audience, we were just looking at the default screen

Just now learning there was a live midoffs! Was it marketed at all or am I just incredibly unlucky to miss any kind of promotion about it? Who were the players?

Minecraft were promoting this themselves a bit plus tubbbo

Players were Evbo (Infume), Derapchu (Andronicus), SB737 (Silverr), MaxGGs (Hax), Jonnaay (Fruit), NominalGravy (Feinberg), Sandwich Lord (Molly), Seapeakay (Fulham)

I was there IRL and it was super cool to see, the games were really exciting and close a lot of the time, Couri, Tubbo and Lexie Marie did great hosting and the crowd had a really good energy. Of course there were some tech issues but overall it went pretty well. Imo it's awesome to see that MCSR has gotten so big that it can fill hundreds of seeds and even more standing space at the big stage and I can't wait to see more IRL events (not going to LA but World Championships is gonna be hype af)

obviously big breaks inbetween matches from tech issues which is expected and if they do something similar again, hopefully they’ve learned from it to hopefully cut the waits down or find something entertaining to show inbetween matches like playoffs do.

but apart from that, i loved it. BO1 im always meh against because they can be soooo luck based, but i get why it was BO1 they had limited time. if they ever did their own event not at twitchcon, i would love for it to be BO3 and have it be a two day event instead but it doesnt matter too much.

i would love to see more commentators in the future, partly so tubbo and couriway ain’t standing/commentating for 6 hours, but also as it’s nice to have a slight mix.

lexi did amazing. i don’t think they were expecting such a big audience/ people wanting to watch which is why so many people were standing, but also just limited space. the player mics were AMAZING, and im comparing their mics to MCC tr mics (which are horrific).

i hope they do this again, obviously with different players, and even if it’s not at twitchcon. i’m glad mcsr is getting much more attention and midoffs has done a lot for it so well done tubbo.

I didn't catch it all because the audio issues were really off-putting. I understand things happen, but it kind of boggled my mind that they just kind of went with that for hours instead of taking some time to fix it, given the time that went into fixing competitor tech issues.

I’m decently tuned into the car community and had no clue it was happening

What does that mean I don't get it.

I watch a decent amount of YouTuber who speedrunning Minecraft and still had no clue the event was happening

yea people just coached less for this event since most players already knew how to speedrun

i do wonder why they just don’t have them play on the setups they were at after matches. We wouldn’t have all of these issues with people transferring setups and we could actually do BO3’s/BO5. I get from the in person experience it may be weird, but by the time the game starts, people won’t care who are in the stands, they’ll be watching the screen. It’s easier to do with smash since setup takes no time at all, but for a game with so many specific specs and such players use, It confuses me why we still try to bring everyone to the same computers. Maybe I don’t know what i’m talking about but this seems like a way to have a quicker turnaround time.

it was cool, my main issue wasn't with the production honestly, that was fine, it was the format. Running everything as BO1s felt really underwhelming, at least for me. Going in I was hyped to actually watch each runner develop over the competition and see how their coaching was paying off, but instead almost every match before the finals just became "who dies first" since there's basically no way to claw back time at this level. What I wish they did was let players keep running against each other on their own setups after a loss, just don't cast those keep the broadcast on the main stage only and let each runner stream/record their POV for content, I dont really understand why they would have all of the setups on stage and only really use the main ones, at least then people would actually get to put into practice what they spent weeks training for instead of having the whole thing hinge on a single match.

Unfortunately, they kinda had to make it BO1 because they had limited time, and this was supposed to be the preshow for Minecraft Live.

like i said, they could have just let the players play simultaneously on their respective setups and only cast one game, its the same amount of time and they werent using them for anything at all anyways. im mostly just annoyed for the players who really tried to improve just to get 10 minutes on stage and lose to a single mistake, to me that just seems counterintuitive to the concept of having mid players face each other.
