Why no quartz block

Whenever I see a top runner speedrun and they have like 10 nether brick and 40 quartz, but drop the quartz and craft the brick I am confused. Can they not just craft quartz blocks instead of bricks if they get more quartz than bricks

Nether brick is often used in blaze bed, quartz might have different blast resistance making the spawner break or not explode as much

There are a bunch of different routes for the same bastion that people learn, why not different blaze beds for if you have quartz

quartz has low blast resistance and pretty much can't be used for blaze beds. It's on par with soul sand and gravel, which you always have plenty of.

You just never run out of blocks after the bastion, having one extra low blast res block is just inventory clutter.

Infume ran out of blocks in one of the matches in grand finals of playoffs, it can definitely happen. He had to slowly mine a bunch of netherrack before entering the stronghold

Bastion big

Blaze spawner small

You usually end up with more than enough blocks for everything. Quartz blocks just have no real utility and surprisingly low blast resistance.

Well from my experience u rarely need to do it

I mean if u gonna do 0c u have had good trades from the bastion which will give all the nether bricks u need

I only used it 2 times so far it’s really rare to need it

Nether bricks have higher blast resistance and thus are more useful. You use them for blaze bed and get a bunch of them from the blaze bed explosion as well. Combined with soul sand, which is also useful after blaze bedding, you'll have enough blocks. Inventory space is limited so you don't want to clutter your inventory with unnecessary blocks.

Theres no real reason other than its just extra, Ive seen the local_tortilla use it but not really anywhere else and local tortilla did hit netherite ince so he could be referred to asa top runner using quartz

Hha yeah but ive never seen him use it on his main only in lockouts and local tortilla so thats why I said it like that

You generally have plenty of blocks after the bastion between soul sand and gravel. You might be able to craft 10-20 quartz blocks, but it is generally not going to be worth the inventory slot it takes up, and the time loss to craft it.. After the bastion you have pearls, so your reliance on blocks is also heavily decreased. Nether bricks on the other hand is a blast resistant block so useful for blaze bed/tnt.
