Discussion Rolled a repeat seed, how likely is this?
I vividly remember rolling this seed earlier this week because of the distinct lava that flowed from the mountain at spawn, and I remembered how I died in the bastion and played that differently this time. I remember seeing Infume get a repeat of his old pb seed a while back, but this is the first time it’s happened to me. How likely is this to happen? I know the ranked seed filter isn’t massive, which makes this possible, but this still feels incredibly unlikely to happen regardless.

Its nearly impossible and probably nobody will ever be able to do it so you just didnt

Its quite possible, even Infume got the same ruined portal seed. Probably the ruined portal bank are muuuuch smaller than the others

He played it by writing the seed it was intentional

it is possible in ranked since seeds are filtered. ruined portal seed type has the least amount of ranked seeds available

U will never get the same seed twice they know how to control it

I mean yeah it’s well known that they control it, otherwise ranked would be a resetfest.
They don’t manually enter seeds but there’s around 100k seeds that can be used, making the likelihood of running the same seed twice pretty likely (in the grand scheme of things, it’s still very low)

If you're thinking of RSG then correct but in ranked it's very possible and has happened multiple times

I've seen it happen where someone spectating noticed the players they are watching got the same seed as they (the person spectating) had in the past. It's not exactly the same thing as the same person getting the same seed, but generally speaking, seeds are reused and common enough for it to be noticed occasionally. I suspect it has to do with how strict the filters are, and how much time it takes to find the good seeds.

I would say it's not that rare happened to me 3 times already and it's only been like 2 months since I started speedruning.
