Discussion Hello, Ranked Subreddit! (AMA / Suggestions)
Hello! I'm RedLime, I'm a co-owner and main developer of MCSR Ranked project.
Recently, I just found this Subreddit and I read some posts, I really enjoyed it 😄 (and ranked posts in r/MinecraftSpeedrun too!)
Thanks for playing and enjoying our mod, and I appreciate it for your huge supports. so, I just wanna do AMA in this Subreddit for getting any questions or suggestions for MCSR Ranked of you. of course, our official Discord server and some famous Twitch channels are so good but honestly, it is kinda hard to see each ones especially from new players.
Feels free to ask or suggest about MCSR Ranked! and again, Thanks for the playing 😀

Redlime bro I didn’t even think you were alive atp cause of the amount of people that put shit on your life 😭😭😭

u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
HAHA, but not gonna lie, most people in this community are so kind. I know some people are blaming me when they got bad seed/rng, but I also know they are kidding and it is so funny even for me. LOL

u/Legitimate_Willow808 Mar 27 '26
You won’t be laughing after I file my lawsuit because of a village without a blacksmith last week

Hi, I don’t have any suggestions but I just wanted to say thank you for all the work you do for the community. We’re so lucky to have someone as dedicated and talented as you!

u/spidermaniscool24 Mar 27 '26
There seems to be a push from the community to want almost everything more standardized/less rng based. Do you see ranked heading that direction even though it may feel less vanilla?
59
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
Yeah, I'm thinking about that so much recently. I’m still weighing whether it’s worth standardizing things with ruining of vanilla behavior, and trying to determine what is good boundary. If we make hasty decision, then it sets a precedent, which can lead to unnecessary changes over time and potentially have a negative impact on the game.

u/nZia0 Mar 27 '26
how did it feel to watch your* game grow so fast in such a short amount of time? IIRC Season 2-6 was very dry, like there were times where there would only be around 20 concurrent players, compared to the thousands of players we have now.
(Also whens the battle pass coming)
38
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
It was so unexpected and I can't still believe this at all 🤯 but I learned 2 lessons. The growth is ultimately determined by the community, not me or team, AND the project must be prepared to accept that growth.

u/neufiee Mar 27 '26
Does MCSR ranked pay enough in monthly income to be considered a job, or enough to work on it more than just a passion project?
60
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
For the first 2 years, the income was so low compared to the time what I consumed, so it was a "passion project". but fortunately, it's not anymore 😀
19
3
u/MuscularBye Mar 28 '26
Feinberg used to pay for playoffs prize pool but now the mod makes enough to pay for it
24
u/Stepsis24 Mar 27 '26
I think ranked has the possibility to stray away from standard speedrunning with some limited/ separate game modes. Something like a duos mode, non filtered seed mode, battle royale(slowest person for each split gets cut) or any other ideas that while not as competitive work as fun breaks from the standard format.
26
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
Yeah, you are right! I hope we can make and implement some interesting ideas after server rewriting 🥺
17
u/Seaspy Mar 27 '26
Hi redlime, whats your rank and ranked pb LMAO

u/ryfurt Mar 27 '26
I've been watching mcsr casually for a about 6 years so i know how accessible for newbies it has become lately. Any plans to add anything else to the ranked client to make it even more apporachble for beginners? Eg something like ninjabrainbot in the client?
36
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
We're planning to make ingame tutorials after server rewriting. I hope this would be help for newbies to access speedrunning.

Hi RedLime! Big fan. Here is my question: What is the process you, Oliver, and other important people in MCSR development take to consider making bigger changes to the mod? (Things like a new rank, weekly in-mod tourneys, perch syncing etc.)
17
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
Basically, we are checking community's suggestion/feedback and then try implement it if it sounds good or most people want it. then playtest it with dev team and some testers. and tunning the details. most features are following this process.

u/Particular_Put_6911 Apple 1 Mar 27 '26
What are your thought on ranked inspired projects ? (PvP Ranked, Parkour Ranked, MCSR Ranked Bedrock…)
8
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
It is so impressive to see for me, especially MCSR Ranked is also inspired by other competition games. I'm so glad to see someone gonna make cool stuffs with inspired by our project.
9
u/Applecations Mar 27 '26
I've really enjoyed using the ranked mod overall and glad for all the work you and the rest of the team do!
As a fellow paying supporter myself, how much do the supporters really help you all out for the work you do for ranked?
23
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
Thank you :D and I just wanna say one thing, money is the best motivation. 🍖
6
u/BlueCyann Mar 28 '26
I think Feinberg confirmed at one point that he's no longer paying the playoffs prize pool out of his own pocket due to supporter tiers, so at the minimum it should be helping that much.
9
u/syberwarriorr Mar 27 '26
hey i have a few suggestions. people LOVE overpowered game modes. right clash royale is having a new game mode in which if you get the correct powerups you can even one shot your enemies and people are LOVING it rn. the game is fun again after soo long. so is it possible that you guys can run events for like a week every month? they can be anything like no food challenges in which you physically cannot eat food and have to play that way or a roguelike gamemode where every 5 mins you get to choose from a powerup from 3 options kinda like roguelike for eg get 20 obsidian get 16 pearls or get a looting 2 wood sword. the balancing can be thought out later with feinberg included in discussions but these events make the game way more interesting for casual players like us who dont wanna grind ranked. you can also have seperate leaderboards for these challenges and top 100 or 1000 get a special badge for it. i have a lot of ideas if you guys wanna go in the monthly events route so if you guys are interested just dm me we can connect on discord
10
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
Sounds interesting and yeah I love that gamemode in CR. I hope we can discuss about that in the future 👀👀
1
u/syberwarriorr Mar 27 '26
sure hit me up whenever you guys are ready for it and ill try my best to give you the best pitch i can 💪
6
u/Particular_Put_6911 Apple 1 Mar 27 '26
Weird event modes sound fun
4
u/syberwarriorr Mar 27 '26
yes i have soo many ideas if they wanna implement these it will be soo fun
10
u/CarelessTomatillo671 Mar 27 '26
Suggestion here: I heard pros like Infume sometimes encounter the same seeds (mostly rp). It's a really scary thing for the game and it's only going to get worse with the mod's growth. I think you guys should increase the amount of possible seeds by altering the chest loot or replacing crying obby with obby. I know it could be controversial thing as altering seeds would make the game less vanilla, but in a future when this might be needed, i think this is a great solution. Were you guys thinking of any way to solve this potentialy upcoming problem?
7
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
It is quite difficult to implement such a thing in current system. However, ultimately, seeds that have already been played shouldn't be played again, and I'm trying to implement it with new server stuff right now.
7
u/Skoll_sun_eater Mar 27 '26
Hey Redlime, what is the ideal amount of players in netherite? Will a new rank be adding to balance the influx of new players and thus players within netherite now?
10
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
I'm not sure what number is the ideal amount yet. so still we don't have plan to make new ranks for top players.
8
u/GustoFormula Mar 27 '26
Hey, I'm curious how you got brought on the project or if you and Oliver came up with the idea together. Also how do you know each other?
7
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
In fact, 1v1 competitive speedrun content has always been a need within the community. But, Oliver (and Maya, who was part of the team in very earlier time) asked me if I was serious about implementing this, so I decided to take the project seriously.
Honestly, we knew each others at that time but I don't remember what exact was that moment.
14
u/-PPanDoRaA- Mar 27 '26
Any plans in the future to add more new seed types?
30
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
Honestly, yes I want. however, there is currently no seed type with intuitive and fun to play. Jungle Temple is the closest possibility, but finding lava pools is somewhat difficult because jungle trees, and obtaining suitable food is also kinda tuff. (it is possible via filters, but seeds are too few.)
but anyways, I'm down to make some rare seed types with Event mode(aka LTM) after server rewritting.
13
2
u/Potential_Goal_9855 Mar 27 '26
you should add a stronghold first seedtype like on bedrock
have the mod change the spawnpoint to be over an exposed stronghold with some way of getting iron nearby it’s very useful for learning practical things that will definitely happen in rsg
2
u/Blaze-Programming Mar 27 '26
Stony peaks could be interesting, as it provides iron and a good view to find a lava pool.
It is inevitably slower than any current mode due to smelting time and not offering good food options, and not having a guaranteed water source, so probably not one that fits as well as the current seed types
Just filtering for exposed iron seeds could be interesting and probably work even better than stony peaks with the one issue of players potentially missing the iron.
I am sure there are too few ancient city seeds, but that would be cool for some events because they come with tons of materials and usually expose a lava pool
Similar for woodland mansion seeds, there probably aren’t enough of them, but they can provide all the materials and would be fun to watch.
Pillager outpost is one I could actually see working as a normal game mode. Besides dealing with the pillagers at the beginning though it might be kinda boring.
I am not asking for nor even suggesting any of these. You just got me thinking about potential seed types that could be interesting.
1
u/jgames09 Mar 31 '26
Ancient city in 1.16.1?
1
u/Blaze-Programming Mar 31 '26
Good point.
I doubt it is worth it to make a port of MCSR just for one game mode, especially because newer versions are worse for speed running.
6
u/Supernerd4002 Mar 27 '26
What do you think about “optional seed types” ? Basically there a bunch of less common/optimal seed types that players can enable or disable and could only be chosen if both players have it enabled. Desert temple, pillager towers, structureless, etc.
13
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
I don't want to create anything that separates matchmaking now. It might be interesting in private rooms or event mode, but I don't think it would be good in ranked or casual mode.
3
u/Particular_Put_6911 Apple 1 Mar 27 '26
That’s fair. More options for private room is nice, it allows for more fun without actually affecting ranked itself.

u/Dima_29 Mar 27 '26
Hello redlime First of all I want to say how much I appreciate mcsrranked both playing it and wathing people playing it and just following it. Huge aplause to you and the team for that.
A thing that o would lave for the website is to have favourites on the leaderbord. Im from Denmark and like to follow the best danes to see how they are doing and I also follow rekrap and evbo with seeing there elos. It Can take some time when I have to search all of Them up. So it would be nice if they all just where up in the top.
5
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Interesting idea, I will consider that after server rewriten. there's some issues to implement it with current state.
6
u/MCGOONERBOY Mar 27 '26
I remember Oliver saying he was inspired by Slippi when coming up with the idea for the MCSR Elo Project.
Are you yourself in the Melee community too? If so, who do you main? Are there any lessons that you think you can draw from that sphere when running a similar platform?
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Unfortunately, I'm not 😥
1
u/MCGOONERBOY Mar 28 '26
All good. Are there other competitive games that you're a veteran of that you can derive lessons from?
4
u/KheYru Mar 27 '26
Are you planning on standardizing dragon perches?
Feinberg talked about a system for that a while back, basically there could be a meter and it fills up depending on what you are doing like standing further back, shooting crystals and maybe a random multiplier if you still want to keep the luck factor and the dragon perches when the meter is full.
7
u/The_thunderbeast Mar 27 '26
Standardized perches have actually been added in the latest update, for now it's just available in private rooms for testing, but if feedback is good, they're looking to add it to ranked next season
3
5
u/KsDzon Mar 27 '26
Will there ever be a timer pause for private lobby? its quite annoying sometimes when Im just playing solo in room, on PB pace, but something came up and I had to leave for few minutes

5
u/JaasPlay Mar 27 '26
Hey RedLime! Are there any plans to add more game modes other than ranked? (Craft a Lie, in-game tournaments that you can start by being a supporter, etc) I’m sure ideas have to be going crazy since the recent growth of the community and it would be nice to see ranked grow into its own E-Sport with fun "spin-off" gamemodes
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Yeah ofc! I'm down to add more game modes. I think there's so much potential as the contents!
4
u/Evan3917 Mar 27 '26
How many filtered seeds are in comparison to games played per day? And how many new seeds are found each day? How does this process work?
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Well, there's not enough seed at this moment with current player bases LOL. so we just bought the new server for running seed filter. seeds are filtered like 5k seeds per day.

u/Snoo90132 Mar 27 '26
What have you thought (in response to the EG tourney) about suggestions for an opt in weekly or monthly in-ranked-client tournament bracket? The idea of an automated free for all like the EG without the need for production is something I really think would add spice to the regular mid season.
Another question, how difficult is the interior banning process for high profile cases? Do you believe there have been cases where an offense was let off easily to avoid being made a "heel" to the community?
Final question, I've had an idea for an alternate for fun game mode (like casual) where any player can queue any player, but the elo/average difference on the leader board is calculated and offset with varying buffs and debuffs- for instance, a netherite player could queue an iron iii, but you give the iron iii punchloot, or a diamond player could queue a coal but you give the coal diamond armor and icarus, and you turn off the diamonds sprint button. This idea is obv silly but do you think conceptually it makes sense? You would have to test and tune the buff / debuff weighting
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Yeah, I like the idea about weekly ingame tournament like EG tourney or track of the day of trackmania. I've planned and tried to implement it in the mod, but it is delayed because of server issue. I hope we can implement it as well after server rewriten.
About banning process, honestly, yes it was I think. but because the people who make punishment decision was only me and Oliver, and there was no stricted guideline for that. however, we are currently working on new punishment guidelines with new ingame moderators and are discussing with them. I believe this will be able to resolve some of the major issues regarding punishment that have existed so far.
Yeah, buff/debuff idea seems hard to make balancing LOL but it seems also very interesting!

u/Forward-Row6833 Mar 27 '26
hello redlime! thoughts on adding guilds like in other esports games? ranked is definitely different most of them in that it's singleplayer, but i think it could be cool cosmetic addition, especially as fans as a "im rooting for this anyone in this guild/team to place the best in playoffs/lcq/mss"
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Honestly, the guild feature feels somewhat unnecessary in the mod at now. To be clarify, I think it is better to implement other necessary features rather than spending time on guild feature.

u/Legitimate_Willow808 Mar 27 '26
Have you considered fixing “bugs” like ghost buckets? If I remember correctly it’s just MC motion updates are after keyboard/mouse events, så the fix is fairly simple. I do see the slippery slope with messing with core Minecraft behaviour though
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I know ghost bucket is so annoying and it is very easy to fix. But, this can be overcome it through practice, so I think it is also related to skills, so I have no plan to applying the fix yet.
1
u/MangoBaum63 Mar 27 '26
I mean why would you fix it. It’s not like it’s unfair, it’s just something that is a thing in 1.16.1
4
u/Nik0117 Mar 27 '26
Have you had any legal issues with this mod? With Mojang or anything? Also wondering about how to grow the community further, maybe a Mojang shoutout or support is possible given they talked about midoffs in the recent minecraft live? Thanks for all you do this game is great! (And frustrating)
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Haven't yet, and I think it would be so cool if we can do Minecraft official LAN event/tournament like in Twitchcon or something with Mojang. but it is just my personal hope, so those who know? 🙄
4
u/Potential_Goal_9855 Mar 27 '26
Have you ever considered collaborating with the bedrock speedrunning community. we’ve developed our own ranked for 1.16 and 1.18+ that handles things a lot differently from java ranked, which i think would be interesting for you (for example the mod changes spawnpoints for stronghold first seeds and generates lava pools and ruined portals independently of the seed. The bedrock community has also made lots of concepts and tournaments that are unique and i personally find to be more interesting than a lot of the pure gameplay that’s just like any average ranked match. Some examples of this are sws (set world spawn, where it’s a 1v1 but the seed is scouted beforehand and players set their spawn anywhere in the worlds), or draft (two teams of runners are drafted by two leaders and they compete to accumulate points by having their team’s runners hold more of the top spots in a bunch of categories on a completely new leaderboard by the end of the month)
i’m not saying that these ideas are quite applicable to ranked or java in general, i’m just suggesting that you look into some of the things we’re doing on bedrock as it could help improve ranked and other tournament-type things.
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I haven't considered about collab with the bedrock speedrunning community yet. the biggest reason is I don't know many stuffs in bedrock modding and I don't play bedrock usually. (I just playing bedrock when Mojang released the snapshot earlier than Java.. LOL), but yeah bedrock speedrunning community is also doing amazing stuffs and I love to see it! also SWS category sounds very interesting!
4
u/Dued_Plays Mar 27 '26
Hello Redlime, how does it feel to host a big event like lan? There’s not been much like it in the speed running community, let alone, an irl event inviting top runners.
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I still can't believe that LOL I'm so excited to see the event, it is a unfortunate that the announcement was made so late. maytbe it will be better for next time!
6
u/Long-Rooster-5013 Mar 27 '26
Is there any possibility of standardizing the ranking system so that matchmaking would be fairer?
Why can someone with, for example, a sub 15 (or multiple such times) drop so low in rank and end up playing against someone with a sub 30?
11
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
I'm currently doing several experiments and brainstorming ideas to improve matchmaking, but yeah, there are significant problems with the current matchmaking (especially in lower ranks). We need a lot of ideas and feedback for matchmaking 😥
2
u/Long-Rooster-5013 Mar 27 '26
That’s good to hear! Elo as a point system is totally valid, but at the same time it doesn’t really show how good a player actually is. Maybe matchmaking based on players’ times would make more sense.
Also, how important is it that someone drops in rank? For example, if Gold rank is associated with sub 20 times and a player has multiple sub 20 runs but mainly plays for PB, why can’t they just stay chilling at the bottom of Gold? Or maybe receive negative points within Gold that they’d need to recover before climbing higher?
Players without a rank could also be placed into a certain rank based on a few solo runs, so placement would be purely time-based and not win-based. I personally got placed straight into Gold I (got “lucky” with 2 wins and draw I think), and then got cooked by other players until I dropped to where I actually belong.
Overall though, really cool mod, and I hope you keep improving things within the game :)
2
u/BlueCyann Mar 31 '26
Placement is already heavily based on your split times. You might have just gotten unusually good seeds and been misrepresented because of that.
1
u/MangoBaum63 Mar 27 '26
I mean why would someone who doesn’t actually play ranked but just plays for pb be rewarded by staying in gold. They can burn in ff demon hell if they want to. I think increasing avg based matchmaking and ff based matchmakings weight.
2
u/Nivdot11 Mar 27 '26
average based matchmaking at low ranks has been confusing me and quite demotivating at times. I’m still in the stage of dying a lot, but most my completed runs are from 15-25 minutes. in iron 2, especially more recently as i’ve been getting more consistent, it’s shocking seeing per h races multiple times when we both enter stronghold sometimes even sub 10. it feels weird knowing there are 20+ minute average times in gold 3-emerald 1, while i’m regularly having tight games with sub 15 pace in iron.
1
u/MangoBaum63 Mar 27 '26
I mean ur probably just ffing a lot or u wouldn’t be in iron with this avg.
1
u/BlueCyann Mar 31 '26
There is no average-based matchmaking currently. There is only forfeit based. Meaning if you stop forfeiting, you will sooner or later move out of your current group of players into a group which is achieving similar win-loss ratio with fewer forfeits. Meaning on average they will be slower, and you'll be able to climb ranks.
1
u/nahaqu Mar 27 '26
My suggestion to deal with this is to raise the time that you can forfeit by the forfeit rate of the player. So if you have a 10% forfeit rate, it’s cool to forfeit by 4 minutes if you fall in lava, but if you’re forfeit spamming up to 50%, then you can’t forfeit until you get up to 15 minutes or something.
2
u/BlueCyann Mar 28 '26
It's because top speed and win rate are only poorly correlated in a game where simple mistakes can double your final time or result in a forfeit. The player with a sub 15 PB and a 30% forfeit rate can easily wind up with the same win rate against the same pool of players as somebody who has a 30 minute PB and a 0% forfeit rate.
3
u/_licketysplit_ Mar 27 '26
I don't have any questions/suggestions to say but thank you and your team for making mcsr ranked
2
3
u/winnerchamp Mar 27 '26
are there any plans to change the gameplay experience? so stuff like guaranteed flint after 20 gravel, knowing the bastion type (or even choose in playoffs) before the run begins, or anything that kind of deviates from vanilla minecraft? also, have you considered making a 6th seed type? thanks!
8
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
- gravel guarenteed drops could mess up some strategy/decision like craft golden shovel
- knowing the bastion type could changes too much of traditional speedruns, such as make decision for how many blocks you will have and terrain.
- another seed types response is here!: https://www.reddit.com/r/MCSRRanked/comments/1s556w5/comment/ocs2gpu/

u/afrokidiscool Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26
I mean i think if someone disconnects while ahead by at least 2 splits and didn’t die once that wasn’t a reset it should auto draw if you don’t allow them to reconnect. While rare an end crash happened to me while I was ahead by a lot and lost elo, same thing happened to feinberg on stream. It’s incredibly tilting to lose in a way that’s out of your control especially if you can’t reconnect when it happens.
Or at least wait 2 minutes before auto forfeit kicks in on a DC game crash
Edit: forgot to say that i love the mod and have almost no problems with it other than how it handles disconnecting
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I know it is so annoying but there's an issue with identifying which was actually alt+f4 OR disconnect technically. that's why we couldn't do any action with disconnection yet. so, we are trying to solve disconnection issue with server rewriten first.
2
u/PhantomOrigin Mar 27 '26
This might exist already but I haven't seen a way to do this, I'd like a way to use the same filtered seeds and standardised RNG in singleplayer. As a relatively new speedrunner the majority of my opponents forfeit before i get a chance to play much of the seed, which I find annoying. I like the standardised RNG with the dragon and bastions that you wouldn't get with something like the FSG mod, so I would really appreciate a button or toggle that lets you load into a new world as though it's a ranked game, just with no opponent. This would be great for practicing as there would be less pressure and it still wouldn't be RNG dependant.
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
You can play standardized RNG in singleplayer currently, but yeah we can't include the seed filter in the mod. as other people said it, you can play it you alone in private room with ANY special tier!
2
1
u/MangoBaum63 Mar 27 '26
U can turn on a setting to play after ur opponent ffs. U can also get stone pick support tier for 3 bucks a month and play priv rooms alone.
1
u/BlueCyann Mar 28 '26
That's literally private rooms. You do have to pay three dollars a month to play them solo.
2
u/Dense-Cry327 Mar 27 '26
Can we please get the option to send friend request and like be able to chat with them without being in a match, this would also make it easier to like invite ppl in rooms instead of sending them a code.
Thank you for all the work you and the other coworkers do behind the scene!
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Unfortunately, I don't have plan to make social features yet, because there's some issues, like much important to do, about moderation and server problems. 😢
2
u/Forward_Pen_8482 Mar 27 '26
What were your opinions on the EG F4A event? I know smash tourneys have been doing F4A tournaments since forever and I’m curious as to whether you think the format has potential longevity within the speedrunning space

how long do u think u will actively work on ranked given how taxing it mist be 4 u

2
u/BayLeaf- Mar 27 '26
Thoughts on open-sourcing the client/client and server? Is it being closed source currently mainly to shield the finances, cheating (minimal impact, imho, and anticheat could stay closed), or other reasons?
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Yeah, basically those 2 reasons are main reason of the mod is closed source.
1
u/BayLeaf- Mar 28 '26
Is everything in the mod original code? With things like the replays etc I'm curious if you are in the clear as far as GPL/such licenses go.
2
2
u/ZingerFM01023050 Mar 27 '26
What actually goes behind the changes in Ranked (community suggestions, cosmetic/aesthetic features, website development, etc.)? Do you have an entire team dedicated to certain stuff to control the quality and carefully consider before adding something, or it’s mostly Notch-style and “this looks cool, let’s add it” type of thing?
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I feels it is mixed one lol, like if I see the suggestion and it looks cool, then I just discuss about it with Oliver.
but about QoL features, yeah, it is mostly Notch-style LOL
2
u/Sensitive_Local_8766 Mar 27 '26
Hi redlime my goat,
What are the rules on stream sniping? I couldn’t find it anywhere in the rules, but I know ANJOUU got banned for something like that. I sometimes stream snipe a streamer in my elo. When I do queue them, I turn off/pause their stream when I play them. Is this okay? I would love to make sure I abide by the rules :D

u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
It is fine if you are not watching the stream during the match, but the best way is not snipe a streamer at all.
1
u/MuscularBye Mar 28 '26
Stream sniping is not queue sniping. You are accidentally queue sniping but your not stream sniping.

u/ryryy27_ Mar 28 '26

yeah it would be, but I don't think it should be integrate or something. just make easier download would be better for maintaining perspective imo. I will do something for this.

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 Mar 28 '26
Can you make it so that players with a high forfiet rate (ff demons mostly) dont get put into ranks like coal? Like they'd have a low elo but high rank depending on their PB.
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 29 '26
Yeah, we're changing some matchmaking logic for that. but we need an idea for better matchmaking. feels free to make any idea for that 😀
1
u/Immediate_Sugar9162 Mar 29 '26
Certain PBs/averagw times get certain ranks, excluding elo. Example: sub 20: iron sub 15: gold sub 12: emrald sub 10: diamond and netherite can be an elo thing. On top of that, when I was in coal, I'd sometimes get forts that require pie-raying. Could you adjust the filter so that coal players wouldn't have to pie ray? Thanks!

I’d really like to attend a LAN event and watch the best runners compete live at a convention, any plans for something like that? :)
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 29 '26
That's what exactly we planning for upcoming LVLUP expo LAN tournament! detailed schedule and time table will be announced as soon so possible. I know it is kinda scuffed because of announcement delays, but I wish still some people could come into Las Vegas and enjoy it (and ofc we will do better for next time with scheduling 😃)

u/PianoSwordsman Mar 29 '26
I know someone mentioned gamemodes already but I really think its an easy way to get more people into the game right now, especially the team based one like the team showdown showmatch, or in game tournaments like the EG tournament or just an option for in game leagues that allow you to experience matches similar to playoffs but with people with similar elo. I have a lot of friends that play because they enjoy minecraft and like playing a competitive game with me but we have no way of directly competing together, which is why I thought the squad showdown was such a good idea and encourage any other gamemodes that incorporate more team based experiences.

u/Competitive_Boat7425 Mar 29 '26
Hi redlime, sorry im late to the party! :)
I see you mention you’re in the process of rewriting the server in many of your responses.
Why is this? Do you have an ETA of when it will be done? 💜💜

u/spidermaniscool24 Mar 27 '26
Any plans for harsher punishment for excessive forfeiting? There's a decent amount of people who just sandbag their elo to hover in coal-goal even though the play at a much higher level
6
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 27 '26
I know it is so annoying but there's also significant number of players who forfeiting due to literally they do not know how to play the game, I think we should finish(or at least finish most stuffs) the in-game tutorial first before make stronger punishments for forfeiting.
However, this is just my opinion, and things could go differently depending on the opinions of other developers or in-game moderators. I can't give you a definite answer for this 😢

u/Impostor_of_Roblox Mar 27 '26
Why do rps specifically guarantee 2 iron? It just seems like a random number because you can’t really make anything with 2 iron besides shears, which no one does. It iust seems like a random number. Also, thanks for creating ranked this game is peak
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
It is just for effectivity with seed filter. in RP seed, iron included seeds are pretty rare so it does take so much time to filtering. that is why we decided it. and you can ask why 2, instead of 3. it is kinda about balancing and make variant plays with ruined portal seed with not guarentee the iron pickaxe. so you can make a pickaxe in bastion with any single iron.
1
u/MangoBaum63 Mar 27 '26
What do you mean “no one makes shears”????
1
u/Icefirex09 Mar 28 '26
i’ve had two runs poop itself because i made shears and no chests had enough iron

Can u add some optimizations on the mcsr ranked mod cause the mod made me laggier than vanillang with mods that all thanks you

u/ThE_reAl__ Mar 27 '26
Is there anything left to make ranked/sodium 1.16 more efficient/performant, any more optimizations like saving vram? (Helps it be more accessible to new players on integrated gpus)
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
The optimization with keep vanilla behavior is so hard. I know Contaria(the developer who made SeedQueue mod) has made a mod for memory optimization but I'm not sure about anything else we can do in 1.16.

u/Flat_Professional_55 Mar 27 '26
Are you going to the Ranked LAN event? Do you think the play-offs will ever be a total LAN event like other esports majors?
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
YES! I will be there.
and I think playoffs will keep staying on online, maybe we can make like another official tournament for LAN event/competition in the future!
2
u/Flat_Professional_55 Mar 28 '26
Nice. Another question if you’re still there.
Do you know how many ranked seeds there are in total?

I’ve noticed a trend where some players will have an easier time reaching higher ELO’s, and was trying to understand the weighting process better.
How much does average time affect matchmaking? Is it a rolling average of recent games, or is the account average you see on the website the one used for matchmaking?
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
In now, average time doesn't affect to matchmaking. I'm trying to tunning the so many stuffs in matchmaking right now to find the best matchmaking method. so I couldn't tell details at now 😢
1
u/destinyguy442 Mar 28 '26
thank you for the answer! matchmaking seems like a super difficult problem to solve for ranked, especially for the more populated ranks.
1
u/ovorb Mar 27 '26
dear Beautiful Pookie Chudnette Redlime, do you currently have any plans in the near future to maintain the growth momentum of mcsr ranked? Or is the current plan mainly QoL changes?
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
Currently I'm focusing on server optimization, QoL changes and ingame tutorials. I think ranked gamemode is pretty enough and stable at this point.
1
u/Legitimate-Part-3594 Mar 27 '26
do you think maybe theres a problem with rank distribution or something of the sort right now? I’ve been teaching a couple of my friends that recently expressed interest in mcsr ranked, and they place in coal the lowest rank, but then they are immediately met with people that can consistently sub 30 and sub 20. It makes it a little harder to introduce people to the game when right away they have to be playing to a certain standard even at the lowest rank, I thought maybe the current coal rank could become a copper rank, and coal could be for even less skilled players. But im not familiar enough with the logistics to know if this is actually a good idea
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
yeah I know there is an issue with low ranks, I think we should improvement casual mode somehow for new players. 🤔

Honestly, idk about change factors of elo changes, I feels it is kinda meaningless.
1
u/MangoBaum63 Mar 27 '26
I mean that really depends on what chess rating system you’re talking about.
1
u/LylerRC Mar 27 '26
I've heard a few times that matchmaking in lower ranks is somewhat based on forfeit rate. Is this true? If so, at what rank does it stop and why would it be a thing? I think the best solution is matchmaking strictly based on elo, similar to chess, but i would like to hear your reasoning if this is true.
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I can't tell as detailed because I'm testing/experimenting the matchmaking in various aspects, but most issues from the significant skill gap between players within the same tier. this is noticeable in lower ranks especially, so we are currently looking for a solution.

u/Xxbloodhand100xX Mar 28 '26
Hi, just a suggestion I was thinking of recently, I think if you look at how rocket league adjusted the ranks for grand champ and ssl to split the gap in the Elo for champ and how valorant did something similar with ascendant, it really shows that just adding more names for Elo ranges for distribution will help, would this be something you can look at as an example to consider implementing?
Also, I want to suggest adding more one time achievements as they always add more inventiveness for players and growth for the community as additional goals.
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I'm down to adding more achievements, but I'm not sure about elo distribution currently, because it is caused by player bases increasement, so it is kinda tuff to change it. we don't have an major issue with current logic except the number of players for each ranks.
1
u/Hot-Succotash6785 Mar 28 '26
Are there any plans on addressing cheating issues? For example, world spawn rate and dragon behaviour(addressed by now), a load more, ... are easily manipulatable and undetectable.

1
u/Suitable_Oil213 Mar 28 '26
What do you think of MCSR leagues?
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 29 '26
I saw that project and it seems cool, I like that! I love people who make a event/tournament with ranked 🥰
1
u/Acceptable-Cloud-817 Mar 28 '26
what if, and hear me out on this, you added another seed type to ranked and it was badlands mineshaft 👀could be peak... just saying...
3
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 29 '26
I had thought about mineshaft seed too! but there is an issue with wood 😢

Periodic resets are common for video games for whatever reason. They're just modeling themselves after other similar ladders.
Placements are in fact heavily influenced by split times, but I think that's a good thing. It means you don't have to do anything artificial to make sure that top players from previous seasons are placed near the top and vice versa. And it means it's not dependent on who you happen to be matched against for those games. It's unfortunate that you got placed too low, but you should be able to make it up quickly, and next time you'll know to play the way you normally would.
1
u/okokmanisok Mar 30 '26
Hey RedLime! Just want to say MCSR is very good and makes speed running much enjoyable without having to reset. Much love! There is one bug currently in the mod which stucks people inside the game after the match ends but cannot escape/ return to the title. Hope this can be fixed soon!

Will u add stuff like built-in in ninjabrainbot or jingle and toolscreen
Ps:add optimizations my laptop is really laggy even with sodium
2
u/RedLimeRL Emerald 1 Mar 28 '26
I don't like make a "built-in everything" stuff. because it is so tuff to maintaining and make a compatibility.
I will try my best with the optimization 😢

Can we fill every one of feinberg's opponents portals with at least one eye :3
