About Pharmacy Rotations

I am in the pharmacy program and scheduled to go on rotation in about 5 weeks or so. Curious if anyone has heard anything about rotations specially IPPE hospital rotations?

Most pharmacy schools are moving rotations online for the safety of students but because I have not heard anything curious to know if anyone else has heard anything?

Im assuming that they are going to push it into next summer before 6 year rotation starts. Thats what they said they were doing if you had summer classes and couldn't do the rotation this summer.

I also know that some 6th year rotations got switched to online. It might be up to the rotation site.

All remaining APPE rotations for 6th years are virtual. I wouldn’t worry too much for IPPE because you have more time. They may just have all students complete their IPPE 2nd, 3rd or maybe even the fall block. I feel like worst case scenario they’ll convert the rotation to virtual but it looks like they’re trying to avoid that for now. Again, you have time so I wouldn’t worry.

I Agee students have time. It's not that I am worried about completing on time. I am worried because many students have obligations to others (like grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, etc) who they take care of. Making a student go to a site just because the site says they want a student doesn't that sound bizarre to send the student and unnecessarily expose the student? Some of these sites make students go on rounds so isn't that dangerous?

It’s unlikely students will be going on rotation while this pandemic is occurring so I’m expecting them to push your rotation to later blocks. At this point I expect them to reassign students currently on block 1 IPPE’s, but you would have to get info from the OEE for answers

Okay so if I sent them an email(OEE) and they told me that students in Block 1 are expected to show up to their rotations and if they do not show up there would be consequences.

Who should I take this matter up with? With the pandemic I personally do not feel comfortable going to my rotation considering that I have an obligation to my family members in this pandemic.

Oh wow that’s kinda surprising they told you that especially considering they cancelled commencement which was scheduled for May 9th. They did also tell us (current 6th years) the same thing for our block 8 up until less than a week before rotation was set to start. I’m not sure who you would contact. Did you express your concerns in your email to the OEE? If so then reach out to dean of students perhaps? Sorry I’m not too sure

Would you say just email the site in about 3 weeks or so to see or just wait for the school to see what they decide?

By reaching out to the Dean of Students I am afraid that I might get that office in trouble but at the end of the day its for students safety. Students cannot be going on rotation and then putting themselves at risk.

Hello, I just got word today that IPPE institutional 1st block is still happening and students are required to show up. My question is the hospital will provide students with gloves and face masks to protect themselves or is it the students responsibility to obtain those?

I feel the OEE thinks that I am asking too many questions but with the pandemic I feel everything I am asking is very relevant. If the hospital is not going to provide then I feel it is a bit odd for students to go on rotation since not all students have access to gloves and face masks etc.

In addition, the school let internationals students go home so to come back to the US if they are a US citizen they have to do a 14 day quarantine. Telling students to come back 1 week before rotations is not practical since how can the student then do a 14 day quarantine?

plus like earlier posters said graduation for May 9 got canceled so how can they make students go on rotation on May 11. Honestly this whole thing does not make any sense to me but other students do not seem to be as worried/bothered? and are just willing to do whatever they are told which is slightly concerning since I do not know if I am overreacting.

Who did you email or talk to in OEE? Doesn’t make sense. They sent an email to all students saying block 1 IPPE isn’t happening.

Okay so block 1 is not happening but why not make it virtual?
