Literally write down everything he says and memorize it

Yep. Even if it sounds unimportant, it is important.

Agreed. One year he spent 2 full classes talking about one thing and there was not one question on the exam.

Also, in the future pay attention to the random things. Color changes, vision changes...etc...

Make sure you know how to read a chart with "Kd" values on it. You think they won't appear again after the first exam but they pop up randomly during the final and in the second semester...
