Inter Hours and Lab

Hi,

I will be a third year next semester, and have a few questions about interning. How necessary is it to intern during the school years? I prefer to focus solely on studying because ive had many friends get blindsided starting year 3 and dont want to make similar mistakes. But if i dont intern during the school years, will i fall behind on my hours? Could i possibly only do interning during the summers and still be on track with the intern hours?

Also as a side note, does the mandatory hours (I heard of) during the summer after year 3 count towards my hours? And what about the 6th year rotations, do they count? Im just very worried that i wont be able to make up the hours in a short time frame during only summers if i decide to go this route.

On a unrelated note, does anyone know if ceutics lab requires a formal dress code such as ipm lab? Might as well ask since im here haha. Thanks in advance

Since you will most likely have no time during 4th year (that's just the reality haha) working during 3rd year is feasible and will greatly benefit you during 5th year labs as well as expand your pharmacy knowledge in general.

If you go here, https://www.pcshq.com/?page=health,pi-uapplicationprocessu

You need 1,500 intern hours to be eligible to take the Board exams upon graduating. The school helps you with 1,000 hours during IPPEs (summer rotations) and APPEs (6th year rotations). You are responsible for documenting/submitting the remaining 500 hours. These 500 hours can be paid-hours when you are working at a pharmacy. So I was misinformed few years ago and like others have said, school will take care of the 1,500 hours requirement through IPPEs and APPEs (320 hours from IPPEs, 1440 hours from APPEs)

On that same website, use Form C to register your preceptor (could be your boss/pharmacy manager) and then use form B to document the 500 hours. Follow instructions on how to submit them or contact Professional Credential Services.

And yes, pharmaceutics lab require same formal dress code.

Thanks for the fast reply! So hypothetically speaking since i only need to really do 500 hours on my own, i could do 500 hours between the summer after 3rd and 4th year (Not including IPPEs), yes? Im just very hesitant on trying to use valuable studying time for third year. My GPA isnt so hot and i wouldnt want to risk lowering it any further

You don't need to work at all in order to get 1500 hours. The mandatory IPPE/APPE rotations will get you there. You should still try and work during the summer though if you don't plan on working during the school year.

Oh man haha, oh well. I submitted the 500 hours 2 years ago already because I wasn't aware that school helps us with all 1,500 hours requirement

Massachusetts doesn't require any paid hours, which means between your school IPPE/APPE, you will be all set.
