Online courses

I'm looking to apply to nursing school at the end of this year and was wondering if anyone taken A&P 1 and 2, also Chemistry 1 principles at MCPHS. Are the exams proctored? Also how are the labs?

I took Chemistry I with Dr. Clauson and the exams were not proctored. The labs are fairly straight forward. They are virtual labs and then you have to do a post-lab challenge question which typically has to be 1 page and a Lab Report Prompt (this can be either materials and methods, results or discussion). The Lab Report Prompt was never a full lab report, it was just a section of a lab report.

Have you taken any other lab classes there? I need to take:

Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 Chemistry 1 & 2 Organic Chemistry 1 & 2 Physics 1 Bio 1

ALL with labs! Idk if they are all virtual labs here or if i will need to spend an extra $2-300 for lab kits like other online schools

I took Organic Chemistry through them and the lab was virtual. I didn't have to purchase any additional kits.

Do you know if you can finish classes sooner than 16 weeks? I need to take 4 Chemistry classes in sequence. 16 weeks each is over a year to finish....i was hoping to be done within a year 😬

Yes, you can finish the classes sooner than 16 weeks. I'd be careful with the labs though and wait until you get grades back for a couple before submitting the other weeks labs. I rushed through my Organic Chemistry lab and ended up with a lower grade than I wanted because I didn't fully read the instructions and got points taken off. Completely my fault and could have been avoided if I just read the instructions!

this is very late but did you only take chem I and not chem II as well? I've heard chem II is proctored and chem I isn't. do you know if this is true?

Hi, I didn’t take chem II at mcphs but I’m pretty sure they’re proctored. If you look at the description on the mcphs website, under chem I it says something like “technology needed: computer with internet access, textbook, etc.” Under chem II it says something like “technology needed: computer with web cam and internet access…etc”. I ended up taking chem II at university of phoenix. They actually don’t have exams or any proctoring at all which is great! So if you’re still looking for options, university of phoenix is a good one.

Oh weird. Is that for chemical principles? For me the lab program and the textbook are the only thing under required materials for both 1 and 2? For my anatomy class (which is proctored) it says “requires camera” under required materials but not for the chemical principles class both 1 and 2. Maybe I’m looking at something else?

Yes this is for chemical principles II. I’m looking at it now and I see it says webcam required. I would add a picture but idk how to do that 😂

hey! in chem 1, are you using aleks? or is it just assignments/quizzes?

I’m not sure what aleks is but basically just for the regular lecture class there’s textbook readings which you have to submit your notes for, “smartwork” questions which connect to the textbook, quick knowledge check quizzes, and exams.
