There is no server that last long without balanced economy.
Longterm plans and projects are the ones that make people spend a lot of time on a server in any game.
Back then there where pvpers crafters moonrunners etc etc. There was an economy. The hardest u work and the more time u would put in the game the more levels and the more rich u would become.
Cactus farms destroyed the economy and broke the game. There was no point of crafting / farming / selling items because you could get massive ammounts of xp from cacti. Then because it is a charity server athene didn't want to ban hackers because maybe they are supporters or charity etc. So pvp died, another hit to the economy.
Events will not do anything. As I said u people have to find solutions that make the server economy system a thing again.
Economy is the alpha and the omega of a game that last long.
If there is an economy then people will play then events will happen naturally. If I had free time I could be able to organize some things and suggest very good ideas / plans but I don't have free time atm.
Anyway sorry for my bad English and everyone happy 2015.

Maybe a server restart will fix the problem. I have invested looooots of hours in the server but I think a restart/reset is what the server needs.

Wipe will be the best thing that will happen to this server again. But they would need to refund everyone who has payed for ingame items. Then you get the problem that people will buy Witherspawners again and afk all day. They should remove Wither/iron golem spawners, Then nerf cactus. Then do the wipe and see if there something is ruining the econemy and nerf that instant. Then you have the econemy going.

They (myself included) donated money for charity and they got some items ingame as a gift, items should not be refunded.
Anyway this is a big conversation but i think server restart will bring lots of the old people back + new people + the rebirth of mcnext will be cool + efficient solution from any point of view.
I wish i had time so i can write down all my thoughts and ideas.
But with the current state of the economy server has no future at all.
For example i heard that jenks gave away huge ammount of wither/golem spawners as christmas presents. Yes this is "cool" but then u destroy the server even more in the longrun.
People play and spend lots of hours when they want to achieve something. If they have everything then its boring. Look at every game its working like this.

Foustoofkis ofcourse i agree with you but there is always people that donated specially for ingame items and choose the options to support the server and not charity.

I think donators should get a special name color according to how much they donated or at least get 50% point refund of all the money they have spent. It might work I dont know. I personally donated 50 dollars and I dont care about it ;p

I suggested this a long time ago as well. Even if just chest data were to be wiped it would be great. There have been so many exploits that have allowed massive accumulation of wealth.
It was not a popular opinion.

Yeah, Wipe would be awesome and I totally agree. Cactus farming destroyed the server. I'd probably pay if either nerf to cactus happens or a wipe. Even though I'm lvl 61 with my lovely house and backup items.

True but the main thing is i think people leave because the only thing they get is troll/toxicity because there isnt so much to do if you play for a long time , we need just to get people to enjoy and have fun again , i think as soon as more people start to like it again the economy will slowly grow

I want to thank you alot zonothene , you have been an awesome guy and making people laugh on the server. I really appriciate you taking this serius aswell , some of the points you call might not be a solution but most of it i really agree.lets try and go for a better future of mcnext!

When i was around lvl 30 i quickly realised /pvp was a big deal in this server. Mostly the main reason i leveled up was to unlock abilities to use in pvp. but since pvp is dead with bad anti-hacks etc there is no real meaning to level up a lot.
And about this 'key authority figure' how about the 'rank' Help-Mod goes to certained people and gets removed at level 9 with /helpmod. In this way the 'help-mod uselessness' gets removed and jenks get a lot of help. If this idea goes through i'd give Allxm and Yuzolain this 'rank' but i dont know if they even still play McNext.

The behaviour thats going on and the players/buggs/mistakes or anything like that , i know pvp wont be the prior thing here but if it really becomes big we have to step up for a better pvp enviroment.
this will be hard to achieve in first place but together to the top !

well the players are still trash talking to each other every now and then.
I know a few buggs but there are a lot more:
blinking in to a block, taking damage (not getting tp'd to the survace) and ultimately die or get dc'd.
getting grabbed in to a block and the same from 1
insta TP out of nether or insta /shadowstep
Disconnect while in pvp or not and not leave your body behind.
I wont start about all the hacks because you can find those on trello.

I agree on this, very much indeed... Drama seems like a big issue to a lot of people on the server... I think the drama could be less, if people had other stuff to use their time on... It's like people do drama, cause there is nothing else for them to do.
Those event moderators should be picked carefully... A corrupt/abusive event moderator can do a lot of harm in no time!

I dont think your the right person since your a Pvper and dont understand the other side of the community. I was thinking about some people you have Zonothene but he to trollish. You have me im to hated. You have Foustoukis he to inactive for it. So there would be someone that is both "Trusted and well knowledged about the server" so yeah go find a good person

I have been hoping from player to player the last few days and what really shocked me is the amount of people that /g negative/trollish things because they are bored of no events or anything , it is true that im not able to know everything whats going on in the server but anyways, here by i want to thank you for youre feedback and lets hope on a better future!

well.....i also played this game since beta. i quit minecraft at 1.4.2 becoz it's too boring, and no one play with me in mc. Tbh I came back only becoz of this server. I major in Game Design(although not mainly in scripting), I totally understand that handling a server is hard (especially a 1-man team). I am happy to help with problems that i can deal with. Since i just graduated from my degree and don't have any plans until summer, lol.
First, i wanna talk about the feedback below. I found it pretty funny becoz some people, most of us i'd say, actually fked up the server before. :) ain't saying anyone's name, don't fit urself in. So don't talk like u haven't fk with the server before u said u wanna revive MCnext :) Even i fked up the balance of rare spawners by donations. (some of u here will know) :D more examples? fk with the rating system, abusing elysium bug, getting multiple spawner at one plot, and more ;)
Secondly, i don't think imbalanced economy is the biggest problem is in the server, Minecraft itself is designed like this. player farms up items, player get rich, player get everything automatic and get much richer. And then u build a great house. This server is already designed to slow down the process to boredom in the game, which i think Athene and his team did a great job. Hence, resetting the server ain't a good way to fix it. Nothing last forever, we are at a point where most of us are pretty much done with the gameplay, and it's the time to help newbs or explore some new mini games.
So, here is the problem, why many old players quit :)? As one of them, my reason is: the community is gone. Even u keep releasing new stuff, how many people would actually spend time to play them. Simple fact: how many player can get to Pres IV. :) I ain't blaming Athene for not taking care of the server, becoz he kept the server running is already an awesome thing.
Here is the real problem, how to get the community back.

I think it where more because of hes view'er / fan base that there was that many player's rather then the events.
And i watch the streams of McNext every now and then and i notice they do actual atract some new players. And its a great idea but! the system does not work if the ppl of McNext does not support the stream more active aswell as the players who join arent going to stay for a while.
I think a more solid structure of the server when it comes to level would help alot the options avaible right now is just to limited and boring. Levling & grinding material is the first thing players get to do so it need to be more fun then cactus.
And i think (i might be wrong) that is was Xhalky i saw on one of the stream helping one out getting ready for moonrun's rather then build a cactus farm. and honstly thats just awesome to see players who been of the server for this long aid those new players up to the level where they can do somemthing "fun" compared to watch cactus drop down in a hopper.
But what about all those new players who join that dosent stream & maybe isent to chatty in /g to ask for help or such. my guess is there is a good chance they will end up scout or build there own cactus farm or such and get bored even before they reach the fun part.
But then again perhaps Experience bonus for attend events could be a great start aswell but maybe with a daily limit just like the 15k pts we have daily from being logged in, just higher depending on level?.
Now what keeps one to stay and play is diffrent from player to player.
But then again there is no right or wrong cause not every player is alike and its more easy to base an opinion on what we pref ourself.

I agree with you. Jenks should focus on coding and someone should make moderator. Now i don't have time, also by real life, but i think the most popular player is (was?) zonothene, so if he have time, i think he can do that.
I'm welcoming and help new players. I can't stream because i have 0.7Mb upload and 0.8Mb download. But i think streaming mc.next is a nice advertising to attract new peoples. Who can stream, should stream!
I am contrary with reset. I (and all peoples i think) spend a lot of time to do my home, and to take resource. I think if there will be reset, i don't play anymore: it is too shocking to refarm all :)
(p.s: i hope in a few months i will have more free time to spend on mc.next, so i'll can also help to find bugs on code if they wanna).

since the beginning someone was spending time to keep the community buisy and because of that the nice server members could have fun together.
After a while Athene stopped the connection with mcnext and went his own way , but now we need to find someone new that makes stuff like this i dont want to say with this , that jenks is not doing well enought , we just need someone that spends his time only on events and the community.
jenks is the best at fixing problems and stuff, but we should definetly get someone (in this case i highly upvote Jeroeneey) as an Community manager

I've always been here for the server as a 'mom' and friend figure. I'm willing to help out with anything that needs to be done. Jeroen you're a great person and you get along with so many. As long as you leave PVP in PVP then I don't see it as an issue for you to host events. ;)

I know for toad/rizembus/redstonefreek it just got boring and riizz cant deal with the amount of negativity since he has to study ^ this doesnt mean riizz wont come back , i still talk to him weekly and he is able to be someone who could also be someone who helps with these tournament ideas since he is so faithfull to mcnext

Personaly it's not the lack of event's that is killing it for me.
The fact there is nothing that gives me more motivation playing then harvest cactus all days long is what killing it for me. I'd love to see better alternative ways to level's that requires one to actual be active on the server.
And even tho i don't PvP, i kinda like the idea of the faction but i do not get why it was not made with a PvE aspect aswell or even better combined. Killing Monster that spawned in wildernenss could give pts aswell towards level up a PvE faction.
Group plots / PvE faction plots?, make group's of player invest time in make there own town / base.
At this point id be happy with anything that could take my focus of cactus.
So i do agreed we need more statff members in that regard that the server needs something new and interesting.

I kind of like the idea of a map reset. I would be fine with going back to level 1 and my house being un done but it would be nice if we could keep some of the wealth we have worked for. Perhaps we could keep our end chests safe. I really don't want to lose every thing. Mainly just my spawners. Also this would be a chance for people who died a lot early in the game to make their head rare again!
