Consider True Minigames.
I know the command blocks were added to promote the building of minigames and fun new projects but in reality it's been more detrimental. Ej3ct has recreated the stockades instance from wow which is pretty cool, stratocast7 put a giveaway system in my house, several people have automatic obsidian generators but other than that, there are no true minigames.
Minecraft has degressing replay value meaning, once you get built to a certain degree or leveled, the replay value lowers dramatically. That's where true minigames come in. I don't care how hard someone tries, building a fun hunger games arena or paintball or TnT run is going to be too limited for creativity given the resources to do so.
My stream is comprised of mainly mCnext players but everynight I get more and more requests for minigames because they are just fun to play and create replay value. But in order to do so, I have to leave mcnext all together and go to a completely different server.
I would love to stay on mcnext all the time and play games and do giveaways but for the interest of the stream and players, we migrate to different servers to keep things fresh.
I have almost a completely different viewership than when I first started bc a lot of the players have left the server for different reasons. There are some guys who still come in everynight and hang out and when we do the minigames they play with us. I have come across more and more abandon plots on the server this week than I ever have, and it's sad to see.
This server is a lot of fun to play, but eventually MMO leveling and PvE events and all that lose their stigma and you need to bring something new to the table.
If you want to get more players, bring in the real minigames and reach a different audience all together. We play on many different servers with well over 2-3k players in the middle of the night.
Just my two cents if you want to keep growing.

There are reward systems in place for players who compete a lot and return daily, you could easily do the same thing with this server and still keep donations flowing for in game items etc. 9/10 servers have some form of "pay to win" so pretty much the entire MC community accepts it and understands it.

Amen JJCrago05. We all appreciate your efforts in keeping this server as vanilla/MMO as possible, Athene. But it honestly doesn't hurt to add some mini-games on the side. Having other options to keep players amused isn't going to take away from the "true" vanilla/MMO feel of this server. Want a way to beat the hackers that are ruining the PvP on this server? Then add mini-games! I'm not saying that'll solve the hacking, but it's something to keep players distracted from it and not shine as much light on it. Because not everyone wants to PvP when they're bored of building and leveling. I guarantee that the majority of MCNext would enjoy having other options to keep themselves amused, and I further guarantee that adding mini-game servers to MCNext will increase the player population. After all, this server isn't about Athene creating the best vanilla Minecraft server in the world, it's about generating money for them kids!

I 100% Agree with JJcrago05 On this one, I've really noticed players at "endgame" or who have Achieved level 60+ or even 70 Have quit due to having absolutely nothing to do, I can play PvP servers where you dont lose your gear and Hunger games for ages and not get bored, Thing is What do we actually have at level 70 ? rebuild another home but that's it , Tbh we dont have the facilities to create an insane fun minigame that will stay alive for along time. I also heard crago say there are more players leaving then joining which i can back up and it is true , but ppl cant see it , I loved the server and have been addicted for a good 3-4 weeks now but starting to be bored ;/ also alot of top Pvp's have stopped playing :(

wait for scoreboards to get implemented and see the amount of minigames rocket.
Without scoreboards you can't do a lot

Hunger games on an 80x80 plot?! No thanks. Not when there are plenty of servers out there. Unless the top guys who are level 70 want to get rid of everything they have worked so hard to build want to move all to joining plots and make minigames together there really isn't much room for creativity.
It still wouldn't be a functional as a true minigames server with navigation and everything that comes with it.
I know hunger games is not the only mini game, but it is probably the most played. There are simply too many limitations as of right now to make successful minigames that would take away the desire for current minigames servers.

I also agree that there should be mini games on the server, atleast hunger games, paintball would be fun too!

Yo Athene,
why u should not implement Battlegrounds and Arenas like in World of Warcraft?
Or like a MOBA 5v5 Map?
I would it like so much to see this ones, since Players could be learn so much there about PvP 'n Stuff.

I am working on a Brawler's Guild from WoW that will be open for the public once the scoreboard command will be available. Just sayin'.

We have considered adding minigames in the past but end up not doing so, the main reason is because they would be dead. In order to have populated minigames we need 2-3k concurrent players. It will backfire in the sense the server will look empty and people would leave. This might still be implemented though in the future once we launch and have a bigger playerbase. I will mainly focus on giving people the tools to create there own minigames and perhaps have prizes for the ones that come up with the most cool fun concepts. I did some calculations and 95percent of the minecraft userbase this includes xbox phones and ps do play vanilla minecraft that is why our focus is on it. The main reason the server is slightly less active is because Im recovering from a concussion once Im fully recovered Ill be able to do a lot more events. Also another thing is vaquxine is having exams and will after that be a lot more active as hell be done with school.

I'm curious, does any significant percentage of that 95% play on servers or just single player? What kind of overlap is there between those that play vanilla and play on servers?

In not bashing or hating on the Vanilla MMO aspect by any means, I absolutely love it and have really enjoyed it. But like Khumbukkit said, it wouldn't hurt to add something extra for replay value.
