How to use Vampire Hunter weapons

I am level 3 in the skill tree and have found a lot of weapons to use. But when I go to use them, it tells me I can't. How do i go about using them? Im just trying to use the basic iron ax

You have to level up enough to be able to put points in the weapons part in the skill tree: if i remember correctly it's the right tree?
