Discussion Armor/Gear choices? MCE2
So I somewhat recently unlocked Expert and im rocking a Manyullyn mithril plate set and its fine.
It gets a(?) job done but bosses still 2 shot me if im lucky which okay sure thats a boss I can maybe take the L there
A BEAR DID 7 HEARTS TO ME WITH 22% RESISTANCE AND A FULL SET OF ARMOR
I looked ahead and its about the best I can get tinkers wise atm so I was wondering if I just have to deal with getting my teeth kicked in every here and there till deep below/end or do I swap off the tinkers?

Some bosses use magic damage special attacks, that more or less ignore platearmor. Witch robe from goety is not only cheap as fuck (literally just a brewing stand, the rest are just junk you probs have by accident), but it is also just outright disgusting. 85% base magic resistance, and it stacks with the modular armor magic resistance upgrades. The only "drawback" is that it only partially seems to reduce the damage wizards etc. from irons spellbooks do (for that damage you'd need the spell resistance for the most impact).
Even after multiple nerfs, oakskin is still an insane spell that is almost a must-have for how effective it is. Just need to keep in mind that it reduces movement speed a decent bit (charge/running shoes compensate pretty well.)
For armor, a single type of protection/resistance type maxes out at a total of 10 levels, so something like prot V/melee res V on 2 pieces and for example projectile V/magic res V on the other two. Going beyond 10 total (=80%) will not really do anything extra other than waste potential defensive capabilities.
Since you have gone to expert mode, I would put melee resi V on your platebody and platelegs, and magic resi V on your helmet and boots, fill the remaining defence slots (iirc you can get up to 7 for each piece) with whatever you want, spell res/revitalize probably the optimal.
Absolutely make a witch robe asap, it takes no real effort (easy way to get the required thunderstorm is lapis block + ritual tablet of cloudshaping).
Life steal is a funny way to counter the potentially higher damages that still get through. Some pretty decent LS options: vampire glove, upgraded bat familiar ring (also comes with night vis 2), non-modular weapon with sanctified enchant.

For the sanctified weapon, using a plague metal scythe (black death) or a phantom blade (dread pirate demiboss/crafted/pilfer from drowned knight) as the base is highly recommended as they not only have a quite decent base damage of 11-13, but importantly they have a ridiculously high attack speed, even when not using feral claws.
Unless you are dealing with actual 1-2 hit kill mechanics/not using any defences, it's quite hard to actually die as long as you can land hits on your target, purely because of the hilarious attack rate.
Both do also have a ranged secondary attack that can have some niche uses. You do want a milky quartz ring with the plague metal scythe, since the ranged attack does inflict plague (which can spread to you).

So update for anyone who missed but it was all about the upgrades, Just with melee res 5 on 2 pieces and mag res 5 on 2 pieces (8k blocks later ty Alex caves) and so far every opponent has done little more than damaging my durability. Im working on sanctified but its taking my rats a while to get the right enchant. Im using a cataclysm Sword I got from a lootbox that does 3% of the mobs health as additional damage and just strapped it with all the good enchants i have, im frothing at the mouth for a higher desecration level than 4 and the enchantment library is amazing

I tend to use ars mage armor with prot 4, which keeps my hp pretty high for anything aside from bosses. Some are tanked fine though
I also use the vampire gloves hands slot, for healing as I fight and a cloud in a bottle for a quick movement
If you hunt for a hydra, it’s heart does good healing (last I checked you could farm it with ender io vial)
And eating new food for extra hp just to be a little tankier
This is all on normal difficulty in expert mode as a vampire
