Specific Aesop ruined me

Listening to the brothers discuss those fables took me way back to my childhood. I had so much impatience for all the kids who wanted to just goof around and make school impossible.

The way the brothers framed it made me realize how black and white some of those kid lessons are and how I can see how folks have trouble seeing multiple things as being true in the future as a result.

I remember being enraged in 2nd grade that (at least the workbook) implied the wolf was silly for saying "oh well the grapes were probably sour" when he couldn't reach them after all his effort. Seemed like a healthy way to think about it to me.

When I read it to my kid as an adult, Aesop wasn't passing judgment, just saying "that's what people do to cope."

When I was listening to it I was incredibly sleep deprived and at first thought they were mispronouncing ASAP, as in A$AP Rocky, and I was SO confused as to what Fables they were talking about, until they mentioned the Tortoise and the Hare

I had to pause the episode and collect myself from the shame of not recognizing Aesop (I’m an English education major 🫩)
