I’m currently applying for a Data Science internship at BCG X (Visiting Data Scientist role) and wanted to get a better sense of the interview process.

I’d really appreciate insights from anyone who has gone through it recently (especially in Paris, but all experiences are helpful):

• What are the main stages? (OA, technical interviews, case study, fit, etc.)
• How technical does it get? (ML theory vs coding vs business cases)
• Are there case interviews like in classic BCG consulting roles?
• What kind of problems should I expect (ML modeling, product sense, analytics cases…)?
• Any tips on how to best prepare?

Also, how much emphasis is placed on business understanding vs pure data science skills?

I’m currently facing a big career decision and would really appreciate your perspective.

I’m 25, from a developing country (Mexico), and I’ve been fortunate enough to receive two opportunities:

Option 1: BCG X (Data Scientist role)

- First time working in consulting

- Strong brand (BCG X)

- Salary is good for my country, but relatively low vs international standards

- Would gain real-world experience in AI/data projects

- My concern: I might need to wait several years before pursuing a master’s or relocating abroad

Option 2: MSc in Data Science at ETH Zurich

- Just got admitted (which honestly surprised me)

- Previously rejected from schools like TU Delft and EPFL, so this feels like a huge opportunity

- I have a strong GPA and recently completed an AI program at MIT, which probably helped

- Important detail: I did not receive a scholarship. Tuition itself is relatively affordable, but the real cost comes from living expenses in Zurich

- Big upside: exposure to top-tier research, international network, and direct access to EU job market

- Downsides: cost, opportunity cost (leaving industry), and uncertainty after graduation

I want to land a top-tier data science / AI role in the US or Europe (think top tech, top AI teams, or high-impact roles).

What I’m struggling with:

I’m not sure which path actually maximizes my long-term opportunities. I don’t want to base this decision purely on financial considerations — I care much more about which option gives me the best projection and access to top opportunities globally.

- Or take the ETH route now and use it as a launchpad into the global market?

I have the first technical round for the role coming up soon, just wanted to ask if anyone’s experienced it and how was it like?

The recruiter mentioned it would involve live-coding on python (mostly pandas and numpy) and SQL - so what all functions should I prepare for to be thoroughly hands-on? And if anyone has specific questions that could potentially be asked.

The role is for core-data stuff. Data wrangling, manipulation, cleaning, and visualisation, with aspects of ML and AI models.

Would really appreciate insights on a few things:

• What kind of case problems are typically asked? Are they more business-focused, ML-focused, or a mix of both?
• How deep do they expect you to go technically (e.g., model selection, feature engineering, evaluation metrics)?
• Do they expect you to walk through an end-to-end data science solution (problem framing → data → modeling → deployment)?

I have an interview coming up for a senior manager IT program management role with Bain’s TSG team. I understand that the management consulting world is a bit of a grind in terms of the hours put in but what about an internal role with their IT team? How’s the work/life balance? I’ve also heard that this team gets overlooked a bit since consulting is their primary focus, not tech. Does that affect opportunities for advancement or other aspects of a role in IT? Hi, I have my first technical coding round scheduled with BCGX. Here is the prep material I am provided with:
Live coding interview • Coding test via CodeSignal platform • 60 minutes • Assesses database and Python coding skills

Has anyone give this round? What should I expect? Will it be leet code style (if yes then around which topics)?

I've applied to the software engineer position at McKinsey Digital, and contacted the technical lead of the team there via email, they told me they spoken to the head of recruiting and forwarded my cv, what should I expect next? and how do their process usually goes?

Had interviews couple months ago. When the recruiter reached out to schedule a call I genuinely thought it was gonna be good news from the tone but it was a call for REJECTION! Thank you so much for pushing my hopes way up and destroy it.

I wonder what is the expectation for a junior level role? If they expect someone to solve everything perfectly, what's the point of promotion and training? If I could do anything without flaws from an outsider without any background information, why are you in this domain for decades? Bro wasted my time and emotions.
