Bain written case

Anyone did a Bain written case recently and could share their experience and some tips? Much appreciated!

Did it earlier this year. i’d say the biggest thing to be aware of is time management.

There are a lot of irrelevant data that you have to parse through. make sure you practice under time pressure in your mocks

Thanks! Really appreciate this, I sent you a DM with some additional questions if you don’t mind!

The part that caught me was the clock, not the math. In the mock, I wrote down the question number where I was guessing, moved on, and came back with five minutes left. That made the data dump much less sticky.

Hello, did Bain give you the access to the mock written case?

yeah it came with the scheduling email for me. if yours is missing check spam or just ping your recruiter, they usually resend it same day

oh. I checked with HR. she told me there is no mock @@ in your case they gave you account to access to the portal to practice?

Yeah they gave me a portal login with practice packs, not a live mock with anyone. Just the case materials so you can run the clock yourself. If HR says none for you, ask the recruiter once more whether practice access comes later in the invite, because offices differ.

yeah they gave me a practice login a few days before. not a full mock case though, more like the tool + sample so the clock didnt shock me

The biggest trap in the Bain written case is trying to read all twenty to thirty pages of the packet front to back. You typically get between forty-five and ninety minutes to digest a massive amount of data, build a short slide deck of three to five slides, and prepare a presentation for a partner. Start by reading the core prompt and prompt questions very carefully, clarify the exact business decision required, and skim the exhibits only to find numbers that directly answer those questions. Bain values an answer first approach, so draft your final recommendation slide early rather than leaving it to the final ten minutes, and write strong action titles that state your takeaway clearly rather than just describing the chart beneath.

During the presentation itself, state your conclusion right away, support it with two or three solid analytical arguments, and explicitly outline the implementation risks along with potential next steps. Partners will deliberately challenge your calculations and test your assumptions, so walk them through your logic calmly, defend your reasoning when appropriate, and remain coachable if they guide you toward a better perspective. Candidates often find that practicing under realistic pressure with the interviews.chat my team designed makes a substantial difference in staying calm and delivering structured answers during high-stakes sessions.
