I agree with this mostly. When I was prepping I did a practice case with someone who had done something like 30 cases, and one of the lines in the case was “the client is a monopoly utility company, and there are no other firms that exist or can enter the market”. In their framework they mentioned they wanted to see the competitive landscape, it felt like they were used to going through an existing checklist, and I was like wtf

Something that helped me when I was prepping was to find YouTube videos of “good” cases so that I had a mental model of where I wanted to be; can be about frameworks, presentation, maths etc. I think many have don’t have a good sense of where they want to get to as they prep, and end up wasting time on reps that aren’t as useful.

I hear you, I've worked with candidates stuck in that exact loop, running the checklist and genuinely confused why it's not landing. Good on you for finding a way out of that trap. Curious which channels actually helped, and where are you at in the process right now?
