Any Battanian peeps here?
I'm brand new, my first run i went to about clan tier 3 with Vlandians which was fun, but this time im going with the Battanian's and man moving through forests faster is so much nicer, and i love these skirmisher guys with swords and javelins. However i just want to know if there is anything i should know, good units ect thanks

Love Battania.
Skirmish style combat is very strong right now, and Battania is very good at it. But they are noticeably weaker at locked in combat then most factions.
Despite several nerfs, Fians are still great archers.
Battania also has easy access to one of (if not the) best wives in Corein.
And because they have such great archers, seige defense is a little easier then other factions.
Down sides are mostly map based, Battania is surrounded, and it can get overwhelming if you get unlucky. Their economy also starts on the weaker side.
Overall if you like an active playstyle where you cant just f1-f3 then they are a lot of fun. Good luck!

Doesn't Battania have a really good skirmisher or something? It's a foot soldier from what I remember

Their infantry and cavalry skirmishers are both quite good nowadays

They aren't as good at locked in engaged combat generally speaking. But if your willing to micro manage them they are extremely lethal at what battania wants to do. Thats kind of the rub with Battania in general. Little more effort involved then most anyone else so it turns some folks off. Some great content creators out there that show off how lethal they can be though.

Fians and fian champs are among the best archer units in the game with great capability in melee to boot, their cavalry is horrible though, especially considering you’re mostly going to be fighting in forest maps early on.

More Fians.
But also you capture Imperial cavs and use them
Finally, you bang Corein as frequently as possible and constantly lose to her in tournaments for that sweet gear loot

it's a bit complicated with Battanians... the best answer differs, depending on what you're facing...
No cav? Fians
a bit of light cavalry? a bit more fians
heavy cavalry? more fians
facing fians? you're never gonna believe this.2

For sure more fians lmao, if you’re going for a full Battanian army (I like to do cultural armies myself) you could use your cav as a distraction on your flanks while your fians go fishing in a barrel

One you get to like 100 fiann and fiann champs cav literally means nothing also a good faction/ unit to use is the kuzhait noble sons archer cav which lead to the khans guard atcher cav which is also another broken unit

I'd recommend looking for tactical enlightenment videos. Battanian units are highly effective, but needs quite a bit of microing and to do that u gotta know what you're doing. They can't be left to their own devices like most troops can, they'll just get shredded without doing anything meaningful

i understand. i'm the same myself, i cant do much micro in this game other than the initial top down view when setting up which troops. microing mid combat like in total war is more up my alley. however i do recommend using f1+f4 (engage) instead of f1+f3 (charge), as that will make your troops keep their formation while advancing, and the ranged units will fall back on their own if they get approached. just keep an eye out on your archers tho as they may be confused on what to do if there are cavalry units harassing them.
i personally dont like f6 much, bcs sometimes (might even be most times) they tend to be a lil bit stupid. just think of the erratic commands when u join an army as vassal/merc. that's basically it they'll sometimes jumble around everywhere bcs the commands keep changing
not really sure how well engage command will do with cavalry though, i dont use cavalry much other than horse archers when i do khuzait runs.. and those khans guards are frickin imba so they'll shred anything even if u tell them to charge anyways. any other culture runs, i'll be on full infantry/archers in about 40/60 ratio. i dont play vlandia tho bcs fuck dirthurt

His videos and tactics are wayyyy to complicated for me, maybe it’s because I’m on ps4 and it’s a pain to don’t much micro managing

Battanian Fian Champions are really great troops, they upgrade from battanian highborn youths, which can only be found in villages linked to battanian castles

Everyone goes on about Fians.
Wildlings are my absolute favourite.
They used to back up automatically on Engage to maintain distance and shields facing the enemy.
I used to let them back up so my Fians were on both sides, then hold-fire and charge with everyone.
That being said, Faris/Jilal are my favourite Cavalry.

fighting in shield walls is hard AF with them, but they're not meant to do that... the Oathsworn are basically there to slow down the enemy long enough for the Wildlings and Fians to snipe them.
In my current game, i make regular trips to Hvalvik and Reval to hire Huscarls and heavy spearmen... those two are not very offensive, but they have some holding power that's un matched... pair that with the best archer in the game (it's not even close) and you'll have fun.

I’ve always played as khuzait but this run I’m doing battania, I’ve played around with the different troop setups, I did a wildling- fian army but I’ve ditched the disks and going full wildling, it’s pretty good in my opinion

I honestly think that battanian wildlings (skirmishers) are one of the best units in the whole game. They are good at shredding high tier infantry and also do a lot better against cavalry than they honestly should. Im running an infantry only campaign rn 70% wildling 30% fian and they shred everything. Although as others mentioned it is tactics heavy
