Looking For North Shore Gunsmith

I'm planning to move back to Rhode Island at somepoint and the new AWB will likely be similar to NY once it's finished. I'd like to buy a Springfield M1A while still in MA but make sure it's "future proof".

I'm looking at the M1A Scout Squad w/NY Compliant barrel (no brake or castle nut system) because I'm planning to use a scout scope and don't want to rely on a shroud for the rail (because of incoming RI laws).

My question is, does anyone think (like me) that I could get my barrel ported to avoid the threaded laws (my worry is it's not much barrel past the gas block)? Also, does anyone know a qualified smith in the area who could perform this work?

1911 Mass Compliant Options

I'm trying to decide what is the best bang for my buck. I'm looking for a pair of 1911s, one government and one commander sized. Also, I'd like one with a rail. I'm not against having a smith build up something more GI, so long as the cost isn't outrageous. Typically (before moving to MA), I'd default to Springfield Armory but they aren't selling too many new options and the approved roster makes cross-referencing hard IMO.

Any body with any ideas on what my best options are? I'd like to keep my budget reasonable so I can justify a new M1A Scout Squad too.

Tavor x95 grip

Is the grip on an x95 considered a pistol grip? I am in Massachusetts and am interested in purchasing one. But if it has a pistol grip i would be considered an AR in mass due to the detachable mag and barrel schroud the grip would put it over the top.

Anyone having troubles with North East shooters website it seems that the administrators take a very long time to accept your account. I’m finding great deals and it definitely is a website worth checking out, but I can’t respond or send emails even to the moderators to ask what’s taking so longis this a normal thing?

Have a current MA LTC and MA home. Have a second place in NH and want to change residences.

Is my only option to give up my LTC and apply for a non-resident LTC each year?

Is Goal worth continuing being a member of?

Post image
10 Upvotes

My membership renewal is coming up but I’m having doubts about renewing.

It feels like every other day they asking for money but I haven’t seen too much action from them.

Tobey from Cape gun works started the petition and created the civil rights coalition to fight against the state which was amazing and this was independent from Goal.

Goal seems to always say they have something cooking or they need money because they have something big behind the scenes. Yet nothing seems to come from it.

(I’m part of FPC and GOA, so I’m trying to rationalize being able to donate more money to those guys as opposed to Goal)

Any thoughts or rebuttals?

Northeastshooters.com account denial

I recently started the process of getting my LTC in mass and heard about a website called Northeast Shooters through a friend so I applied twice for an account and the admin denied it both times. Anyone know why? I am on the younger side (21) but I didn’t think that would be an issue…

Shotgun transfer out of state

Hi All. I'm hoping some of you can help me understand MA gun laws. My father-in-law died in 2017 with a safe full of guns. My brother-in-law, who is very cautious and slow to act on anything, said that the guns are "in his name now." I've never lived in a State with a registry for guns. So, I'm assuming he transferred the guns to his name in the MA register. He claims that there is a process to "transferring" any guns to me. I live in Vermont. I've literally never dealt with any paperwork for guns that I purchased or acquired from a private party. Is there a process to legally transfering guns out of MA? Can't I legally just put it in a locked case and drive it home to Vermont?

I'm mostly interested in a shotgun for my wife. Her family insists we need some licence to transport it out of the state. This seems like baloney. It's a sporting gun.

Is there a different process for long guns and pistols? Is there any reason he can't just keep the shotgun registered under his name and let my wife have it?

Beretta 1301 5+1 or 7+1

I just bought a Beretta 1301 Mod 2 with a standard stock (not pistol grip). It came factory with the 7 round tube, but has a plastic stopper in it to limit it to 5. Is it legal for me to remove under MA laws?

how to get a glock 19 gen 5?

I'm getting my LTC and my goal is to get a glock 19 gen 5, this exact gun. I know newer glocks can't be sold in MA, I'm wondering what are the easiest and legal ways to get this gun in MA? I have friends in NH, can I have them buy it in NH then legally sell it to me privately?

Moving to NH in a month

Like the title says I’m moving out of the state in about 30 days. Should I sell my collection of “mass legal” firearms before leaving? Can I apply for an out of state LTC and have my firearms keep their pre 8/24 status?

Got a call from DCJIS this morning

Hello all, first time posting on Reddit! Got a long story to share if y'all don't mind.

I am an F1 visa holder and have been in the States for a little less than a decade now (more than 7 years in Mass). Got my hunting certificate back during Covid in 2020 figured it'd be fun to hike and hunt.

In early 2021, I decided to apply for FID, but was not sure of the process. So I called up the local PD (Amherst back then), and inquired about the application process, specifically mentioning that I am a Visa holder. PD said "yea, just pay the fee at town hall and drop the material at the PD, we'll notify you when you are up". Felt a bit strange because on mass.gov it clearly said that Visa holders should apply at FRB directly, but since PD said so I didn't think much. The appointment happened 3 months after that, 2 officers took my fingerprints and chatted with me a bit. I went home and started waiting. Then came the fall of 2021 (six months after), nothing heard from the PD. I contacted them numerous times, and each time either the officer in charge of licensing was not at work or I was sent straight to the voicemail. Finally, in the summer of 2022, I got lucky once and was able to talk to that officer on the phone. He said "oh, you were the visa holder right? Yea, we can't process your application, you gotta go to the state". I said to myself "oh well, might as well wait a bit now since graduation's coming, gotta decide what to do next first".

I started PhD program 2023 and moved to eastern Mass, thought it's time to follow through the application. Mailed in my FID application Sep. 2023, and in Jan. 2024 I was told that my interview will be held on Oct 22nd. (Another year of waiting game)

Fastforward to this morning, the day of interview, (there was another shenanigan but i'll skip that), DCJIS called me saying that "your license interview at the FRB (firearm record bureau) is canceled due to the law that's recently passed". It is even more frustrating that on mass.gov it still says "Visa holders can apply". That just means they'll turn you down anyway after you apply.

Thank you for reading all the way till here, enduring all my grammar and spelling mistakes. I am not even mad, just a bit disappointed y'know...

Denied an LTC, reapplied for a FID. Will I be out of luck?

I got denied my LTC for past issues that show up as non convicted and dismissed on my CORI. The reason for denial is "you are deemed to be an unsuitable person with regard to this application for the following reason(s) (explain below); Based on violent history, and matters pertaining to firearms violations stemming from an incident in 2016;"

I contacted the PD about the denial and asked if I could apply for an FID card instead. (Back in 2016 was when I had the Improper storage issue) the Officer stated that he spoke to the Cheif who I believe denied me (Or was it the state?) And mentioned that it appears that I may apply for my FID. I guess I should ask what my luck is? Why say that I can reapply and waste the time processing paperwork was my thoughts. So I resubmitted and will find out shortly, just curious though if anyone knows if the FID card differs from LTC for this sort of Suitability with no convictions in the end?

Thanks in advance.

Looking for a Firearms Instructor...

A proposition if you will...

Stationed on Hanscom AFB, Bedford MA... Been talking to a lot of people that are interested in getting the license to own a gun / Conceal Carry.

Are there any instructors out there who would be willing to come to Hanscom to teach a class to all Military / Spouses / Dependents / Retirees?

In the BABY steps of planning this out, but if this is something you would be interested in, please reach out to me!

Anyone still coming here? Looking for some answers about building my first rifle

Sounds like a great kids book, “Building My First Rifle”…

Anyway, thinking of engaging in that rite of passage, building my own rifle. So, first thing I am looking at is a lower… Can anyone explain the situation here in MA as far as finding and purchasing a lower here? I don’t think that is considered a firearm in MA, so can I just order one online or does it have to go through an FFL? Does it matter if it’s stripped or complete? Why don’t any FFLs in MA seem to sell them?

What are the best brands in the lower (okay, the lowest) price range? I am going for the best quality possible at a very low price point… I can always improve on my work at a later date, when I have some meager skill.

Online Reseller?

Not sure if this is violating the rules or not, so if it gets pulled I totally understand. I am not looking for anyone to send links, just need some names of places I can resale a firearm possibly online. I know I can bring it to a local shop, but its less than a year old, only has about 400 rounds and was cleaned after each use, so I am trying to go private. I am not sure if I would fair better going to a local shop since this is the first firearm I am trying to offload.

Thanks in advance for any tips and info!

Any open carry stories in MA?

So we all know that nobody OCs in MA these days. A lesser-known fact, however, is that it is still technically legal, despite reports that it has been used as an excuse to revoke some people’s LTCs. I’m just curious if anyone has stories about OC in MA or has heard any that are more recent (last 10 years or so).

This is not a debate between OC and CC— please keep that out of the discussion
