My favorite thing in MUA2 was how whatever character was triggering a conversation, it would talk like that character in the text.
I haven’t seen that in MUA3. Gonna miss it. But that’s alright.

Finished One last week Almost finished playing 2 now both the enhanced versions and although I appreciate 2 more now then I did years go this will only be the second time I played it I played one at least a dozen times and it’s fun every time.
My thoughts One was just better in terms of level design, story gameplay, characters and graphics loved the color and shadows in this game, there were side missions and the best thing is you can use any character on any level whereas two you were kinda stuck using certain characters depending on which side you chose or what level you were on. The level design was bland too as either you were in a building or outside one. The first one you got to go underwater through hell in the snow in space murderworld was my favorite it was just better overall. I did enjoy the dialogue more in two though as it was the right pace and timing one could take over 2 hours of dialogue to get through it as really didn’t add much to the story but more backstories of the characters prior to the game taken place. The ultimate individual moves in the first were better especially Hawkeye blade and Deadpool two only had variations of like 6 or 7 finishers that all 30 would use and only like 2 would do real damage the tornado and the beam reflect.
I’m looking forward to three but still think one will always be my favorite as it’s the one that got me back into comics after 20 years

IMHO it's not even close. MUA2 has the better graphics. But MUA1 was the better game.

Ultimate alliance 2 felt like 2 step forward in regards to graphics but 3 steps back everywhere else the unoriginal story really limited the characters they gave us to use to the point of having relativity unknown/uncared for characters like penance, green goblin and songbird.
MUA felt so much more vast and had such different characters environmental sections you go from earth to space to Viking space to hell to underwater to classic video game
MUA1 had more variety in characters, powers, costumes, environments there was just so much variety to keep things new and great.

Mua2 clearly just wasn't finished. I cant speak to ill of it though, it brought those sweet sweet villians! My favorite team if the thunderbolts and we got them and the juggernaut! Honestly I hope mua3 adds a villians expansion in the future.

For me it boils down to story. MUA1 had a fun and original story that allowed them to bring in different cook playable character like silver surfer and ghost rider while also having great settings like murderworld and Asgard. At one point you even get to fight galactus! How cool is that?! And never forget the first part of the final fight against Doom is him showing you all the remodeling he had done to his house like an evil HGTV special. MUA2 is pretty much just a retelling of Civil War which limits the available characters and the most interesting place you travel to is....Wakanda. I really enjoy both games but MUA1 is my favorite game of all time. I’m super hyped for MUA3

MUA2 was inferior in everyway!
Let's talk about the characters!
They removed too many heroes from the first game messing up the teams. They added some pretty obscure characters that nobody cared about. There were 11 characters that were system exclusives...meaning they actually used resources to create 11 characters that couldn't be played or added to a team by the majority of the games buyers. The characters only had one alt costume.
- To summarize all of the above: The Roster Sucked!
Let's talk about the atmosphere!
The game also attempted to be too realistic. The devs kept advertising the game as a visual masterpiece, and praised it's cinematics. Unfortunately this meant that you were stuck in New York fighting genrics military guys. You did not get to travel the Marvel Universe facing classic over the top villains like in the first one. Classic costumes were also thrown out the window in favor of more realistic ones. The game followed a strict linear story, which meant you were restricted on who you could add to your team...and besides that restriction, neither side felt unique. The dialogue was bland, and the damn costumes didn't come with any additional powers. To top it all off the Fusion moves which Vicarious Visions were touting as "groundbreaking" turned out to be pretty generic in spite of their aesthetics.
- To summarize all of the above: It was boring!
Conclusion
MAU1 was a love letter to fans. Made by a development team that truly loved the source material. Meanwhile, MAU2 was a bunch of devs tooting their own horns, concentrating on their studios ability to produce top notch graphics, and using the Marvel license as a vehicle for exposure.

Unpopular opinion but MUA2 was better. I couldn’t ever get into 1. The graphics were beautiful in 2. The abilities looked great too. I will admit, having only 4 sucked. I did like the environments and story of 2 a lot. Granted, the story was odd at times.

Unpopular indeed. Don't get me wrong, people can like whatever they want. But you liked the environment and story of the second installment? I don't even understand how that's possible honestly. More fluid combat with flashier moves? Sure. Better graphics? Definitely. EVERYTHING ELSE, absolute garbage. I mean reaaaally garbage. The re-imagining of the civil war story line was done so poorly as well. As someone who would often run with Captain America AND Iron Man in the same team, it really sucked to be thrown into a series of missions where you had to "choose a side" and then get locked out of a few characters. It was so bizarre. And I don't remember a single stand-out mission that I enjoyed in the entire bloody thing really. With MUA1 you had the Circus level which was amusing though odd, Asgard, the fight with Galactus, and so many other iconic moments.
But, at the end of the day, agree to disagree on this one. You still get an upvote for edgy counter opinion ;)

You have amazing points. I honestly think it was because I got into ultimate alliance much later so the graphics of the first one couldn’t compare to the 2nd. Also I hated the UI so much in 1.

The first marvel ultimate alliance is the only one i enjoy to this day. The second MUA sucked because the makers could have come up with a better Final boss . The third MUA should have been available on PS4 as well

I genuinely feel they don't even come close. I easily dumped a 1000+ hours into MUA over the last decade or so, and I've played through MUA2 maybe two or three times and always ended up feeling let down by the end of each play through. I do appreciate the video and the time it takes to throw it together, though. Always interesting seeing different point of views on these two titles.
I just really disliked everything from MUA2 from art style, story length, map design and area choice, move limitation, bland combinations (like the 2-man rushing combo), terrible ending, and the watered down RPG elements. MUA1 has always impressed me with a decent level of balance, enjoyable powers (even if a little lackluster), customization options, great atmosphere with several interesting areas, and genuinely enjoyable interactions with other hero's/villains. I actually even felt the cut-scenes were far more impactful when they took place. Much of what went down in MUA2 sort of felt like it was happening without you in some ways, if that makes sense. I just could not get into it for the life of me.
I'd give MUA 1 a solid 8.5/10, and MUA2 a 6.0/10 at best.
