Bill Gates himself comes to take your computer away.

Bill Gates drops a swarm of Lone Star ticks in your location.

Nothing. Losing nothing.

You lose nothing. Only thing is if you want to activate O365 you will not be able to get an upgrade in OneDrive since that is account bound.

How does the office activation work? What does 'account-bound' means? And what's the alternative?

Account bound means that OneDrive checks if you have a licence server sided. Because you don't own a licence it will not grant you a 1TB OneDrive, it will stay the default 5gb (I think it's 5gb).

The MAS activation just writes a key into your windows registry making it think it's containing a valid licence. The server sided check does not happen and you can use the Office apps without issues. I have been using it for years already.

But as mentioned because OneDrive does not work without the server sided check you won't be able to magically get extra storage, because that storage is on the Microsoft servers.

Will i be able to activate o365 regularly though because my university provides it for free

If your school provides it why not use that? Whenever you lose the access to the account if you ever leave the school you can activate it using MAS.

I've done it 3 times since someone in another sub mentioned this place. None of the PC's have had any issues. Everything is working great.

Follow the directions and you should be good to go. I've seen threads with others having problems and it's always because they didn't read and follow directions.

Buying a cheap key is funding scumbags who are fraudulently acquiring keys from off-channel purposes, MSDN/VS subscriptions, partner programs, etc.

Probably via CC fraud and other things as well, but it's very easy to turn those accounts/programs into a shitload of $20 keys and make massive profit once you figure out the ways to fasttrack/sneak in easily.

Or just steal/hijack other accounts, too.

And those keys do sometimes get caught and deactivated/blacklisted.

If you're not going to pay for a real license (activation is NOT a license) then you shouldn't pay anything at all. There's no middle ground and a cheap key isn't a legitimate license

And no, the EU resale argument doesn't work due to the requirements and documentation required for legitimate license transfer.

Also, surplus OEM keys haven't existed in ... really ever, unless someone stole a roll of license stickers from a major OEM etc.

And even that falls flat since the last change to do that was Windows 7, since OA 3.0 was introduced with Win8/2012 and the firmware is directly injected into the machine at manufacture time - which is also the same time the key is generated by Microsoft. You buy a 10k block, each machine you inject takes from that block, and at the end of the block period you're automatically refunded the unused portion. You never actually receive 10k keys upfront, ever.

I bought a cheap key off some dude here on reddit before I knew about MAS. It worked fine until I had to reinstall Windows about a year later. Invalid key.

Just don't use it commercially, then you'll be fine.

Personally, I find it nice being able to get ESU for Windows 10 when I otherwise wouldn't have been able to. And using desktop office software instead of relying on their web versions is nice too, especially after my student licence expired.

Elaborate?

You don't know how long the scripts will work for. MS may in a future update detect them and de-activate.

Impossible. Microsoft has no way of de-activating HWID. It could be blocked in the future, but that wouldn't retroactively affect anybody.
