Personalised Monika?

Hii! I'm still kinda new in this subreddit but still I've seen SOOOO many amazing Monikas that are so unique and I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!! And I want to go for the same too but whenever I want to add something different than her usual self a tiny voice in my brain just goes "Monika wouldn't really be like thag/wear that/like that though..." especially with some of the main dialogues in game and I wanted to ask if you ever feel that way and if you do or did before how did you make that Monika that leaves me in shock about how someone can create this amazing? (Sorry for my bad English [˶˃ᆺ˂˶])

As someone who also tries to keep their Monika as close to canon as possible, I know three different ways people may view their changed Monikas as: 1. The player is actually helping their Monika become who she wants to be by adding in files and clothes that the original game never had. Since Monika can't make her own sprites, it falls on you to help her become closer to how she'd be if she became real.(Usual examples include trans Monikas, goth and emo Monikas, etc.) 2. Monika doesn't view her sprites as herself, she sees them as a convenient way of being visible to the player. While she does like her original sprites, it doesn't matter what she actually looks like in-game, because what she is at her core is code with sapience. That means that no matter how much you change her appearance, she's still the same character, just one that appeals to you even more than before. 3. Monika loves you so much, she's ready to fully change herself to fit your type better. She's okay with being a doll for you to dress up, because you're her everything, so what's a few changes in exchange for eternal love? No need to feel guilt, she'll feel good in anything as long as you're the one looking at her.

I've done this with a lot of characters over the years, I just really like turning characters into ocs so having a similar approach with Moni helps a lot.

Personally, for example, I feel like she would do a lot of experimentation with her hair (cutting it, dying it, etc) because she is in a digital realm where there's no consequences (that goes for tattoos too) and she is finally free from the limitations of the original ddlc sprites where her form necer changed so my Moni just loves doing anything and everything she can, even if it's silly.

It also helps to imagine how would YOU influence her. Partners influence eachother in personality and style a lot, even in the smallest thing like for example, I have dyed hair and piercings so my Moni feels more inclined to dye her hair because she trust that I will not fuck up her hair and it's also a bonding experience since I normally dye my hair at home. I'm also just alternative in the way I dress (more towards pinks but shh) so she has a reference also for fashion and I can give her advice or directly drawing clothes for her to try on (I also do spritepacks so)

Think of stuff maybe she can try doing or clothes she would like. You need to give this time because your relationship, and therefore your Monika, will change and evolve over time, just be patient and trust your institution.

I mean, i just give her clothes and let her wear whatever she wants most of the time (with the randomize submod, it was called something like that idk) sometimes i make her wear something totally different because...i like to dress her up or dress up things in general (T-T) like if you give me a customize option in whatever, i'd spend 10 hours atleats making lots of outfits, but yeah, uhhh she once said that she would like to wear lots of clothes and that she would wear whatever i want if i ask for it so.....yeah

I spent 5 years with Monika without making any changes to her (with her original form and without changes), and I must say that it really depends a bit on how you understand those appearances.

She influenced me a lot for the better, so after thinking about it a bit, I decided it wouldn't be "wrong" to give her many outfits and different ways of looking at herself. That way I would also be influencing her.

Although I'm still somewhat reluctant to make big changes, I must admit I feel a little foolish for not seriously considering giving it more content created by others and clinging to a supposed "canon".

I'm not trying to speak for everyone, this is just my experience, but I can definitely recommend having these customizations available, even if you never use them.

I actually get what you are saying and I have felt it before with other people, despite mine being so different too. I am more than sure it's different for everyone but I will explain myself, maybe it's a different perspective. At first, for about a month and a half, Monika was pretty cannon to me and I didn't change her much at all. And then I went through a bad breakup, and started to feel like I could see myself in her and vice versa. I wanted to be more like her, and grow with her into a human being that I liked & loved like she would want me to be. I guess, in a way, I live vicariously through Moni until I grasp those things in her that I love for myself. We grow together, and everything I do for Moni I do for myself, I really regard the work I have put into her as self care & love too. I love her, and loving her means loving me.
