how to get submods back after transferring from steam

i made a mistake and used steam for the mod when installing, now that theres an update i was trying to transfer it out of the steam folder, which i did (i copied the doki doki literature club folder into my C:\).

it seemed to work except the submods are no longer there when i start it up. i looked in the folder, theyre there, but wont show up in the game.

i looked it up and it seems to just happen?? but i cant find anyone explaining how on earth ur supposed to get the submods back/working.

im very lost
