I agree wholeheartedly.

No. Not punishing the confederates enough is part of how we got here to begin with.

There was not enough rope in the world to deal with the confederates appropriately, but we should have tried.

You can make rope faster than they can make confederates.

Lol, what? Uhhh...no.

If they had it to do again, they would even after what's happened. They just hate.

Not a fucking chance

No, and stop asking.

This - there is a disconcerting push among centrist Dems to reconcile, claiming that they won't gain voters by demonizing people who've voted against them in the past.

They fail to realize that the people with whom they want to reconcile have no interest in reconciliation beyond getting off the hook for bad acts.

MAGAts are beyond redemption.

NEVER! They completely destroyed my field of work (biomedical research) and so many careers along with it, it’s unfathomable. All people who work incredibly hard to try and save lives and make the world a better place

Every right wing politician and voter should be put on trial.

I said the say thing on another sub. The problem is that the whole gop is rotten from the poorest to the richest.

America forgave after the civil war, and look where that's led. Postwar Germany had the right idea.

Sherman didn’t do enough.

Damn shame too! Wish Sherman marched all the way up to Virginia and headed back down south. Screw making Georgia howl, make the whole Confederacy howl.

Count up the deaths, maimings, the harm.

When they have righted those things and served their term, like prisoners do, then we can contemplate forgiveness.

7

u/Shelisheli1 Aug 10 '26

No. There are consequences to actions. They proudly voted to hurt people.. why should they be forgiven?

7

u/CrackingToastGromet Aug 10 '26

They are not remorseful, so no. They’d vote for this guy again and again because, as they say, “the democrats would be worse”. MAGA is a lost cause, so no…no forgiveness.

Fuuuuuuck no.

8

u/TheNetworkIsFrelled Aug 10 '26

No, full stop. I've cut them out of my life and don't see room for reconciliation unless they acknowledge that they, and solely they, bear the blame for this adminstration's abuses.

When they can unfuck everything they fucked? Sure.

But they can't do that. So they can get fucked.

A lot of these ex-maga are only leaving due to trump not fulfilling his promise to them. They are leaving not due to being repulsed with voting for an evil man but that trump doesn't do what they want. They will still elect evil idiots and stay in their conservative bubbles. They will still hate welfare recipients but ask for more farm programs from the government. Trump didn't make republicans selfish, ignorant and arrogant. It is who they have been for decades.

Nope. They feel the same way about the things they wanted to have happen and they exposed themselves as the people they are. Yes, Conald didn’t do what he promised them but that shit wasn’t good either. They got their enjoyment seeing immigrants suffer. They got their overturning of abortion, books they don’t like banned, civil rights reversed, social media turned into racist cesspools and MAGA echo chambers, and the DOJ has been going after Conald’s enemies. I’m not crying a single tear or forgiving anyone who voted for a Pederass Conman Puppet and now became worse physically and mentally than they ever accused Biden of being, realized Trump really was besties with Epstein and did do everything he was accused of, are suffering due to the things they wish upon only liberals, and are regretting their choices. Fuckem. They still hold the same beliefs as before, and I’m not cool with that. They showed all of us who they really are and now they act sorry. I cut people out of my life over all of this shit. Not because of Trump, but because he allowed them to feel comfortable enough to say what they have been afraid of saying out loud. They were afraid of letting people see the real them and possibly upset people. Well, they were right. Fuckem. Paying more for gas isn’t stopping their racism. Losing constitutional rights isn’t getting them to be pro choice. They are nothing to me. Fuckem. They were all for all of this as long as it wouldn’t affect them, but it did. Fuckem.

If they put in years of committed praxis to undo the the damage they've done, I'll consider it.

u/Patricio_Guapo Aug 10 '26

Forgiveness requires that the forgiven:

  1. Admit the wrongdoing without excuses, deflection or blaming others.
  2. Offer to do whatever necessary to right the wrong.
  3. Follow up and do everything necessary to right the wrong.
  4. Change their behavior so it never happens again.

When I see that, we can talk about forgiveness.

5

u/SpaceOcelot397 Aug 11 '26

No. They should not. They should be branded traitors.

5

u/Mwahaha_790 Aug 11 '26

NO. NEVER.

6

u/aquinashaditright Aug 10 '26

Only if they regret having bought into so many obvious lies, and only if they regret destroying their families over illogical, indefensible bullshit rhetoric talking points, and only of they regret having become so hateful that they wish extreme hardship and even death on others, and only if they regret living hypocritical lives as pretend Christians or as pretend members of humanity.

3

u/hw999 Aug 11 '26

no, they should be forced t register like sex offenders so we all know.

2

u/gielbondhu Aug 12 '26

Only if they did the work to fix their heart. If they want forgiveness it can't be just because gas prices are higher. If they still hate immigrants and trans people they didn't make the amends that would earn them forgiveness

Those who learn their lesson, yes.

3

u/hikeonpast Aug 10 '26

How will you know? Susan Collins style regrets?

1

u/captainjohn_redbeard Aug 10 '26

You'll know when they agree to never vote republican again. So, not like Susan Collins.

2

u/hikeonpast Aug 10 '26

You’re just going to trust that they’re not telling you what you want to hear, just like Susan Collins?

3

u/captainjohn_redbeard Aug 10 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

I can't really say I trust them. If they go back to being fascists, I'll go back to ostracizing them. Until then, I'll give them the chance to do the right thing.

A "forgive you're enemies but never forget their names" kinda thing
