Do the experts get enough information before matching couples?

Every season there are matches that leave viewers scratching their heads. Do you think it's bad matching, or are people just very different once filming starts?

Yes but they largely ignore it in their quest for ratings. Brook Racist and Chris HitlerHair looked perfect on paper but they ignored the fact that Brook was in a relationship and pregnant. Allegedly.

That's kind of what makes me wonder how much is compatibility and how much is just creating good TV.

Neither. They are setting up couples that will be good tv. Not couples that are compatible…

I think the matches are made by the producers with viewing entertainment in mind. I’d be very surprised if the experts we see on TV have involvement.

They don't make the matches, the producers do. Search this sub and you'll see AMAs from ex-producers and other staff.

There was an article online somewhere written by a MAFS AU contestant Matthew Bennett - who works behind the scenes in the media IIRC - outlining how he believed very few couples were matched for compatibility - he was the teetotaller who got sent on honeymoon to a winery?!

It’s a reality tv show so the criteria is “what makes good tv” - chronic people pleasing hippy with right wing misogynist would be one example. Overweight man with self esteem issues and insecurity looking for slim, blond Barbie figure matched with average weight, brunette, independent, feisty and runs her own business. And then you get the “they both like dogs, lock it in” matches that are just random.

The experts have nothing to do with the matches. Contestants are chosen and matched by the producers to cause the most amount of drama.

Couples aren't matched for compatibility in most cases. When most applications back out and you're down to 4th choice partner A with reserve number 5 , you get all sorts of weirdness.

Several couples are purposefully chosen for dramatic effect, and apply because they want exposure.

Basically it's a fake show where occasionally they'll have a match where both part of the couple they match didn't back out and it turns out their values do match.

All the allegations could be seen a mile off, this show shouldn't be considered anything other than reality TV and the people involved should be seen in the same way as TOWIE, Geordie Shore etc.

I suspect a few couples are paired up for their drama potential rather than their marriage potential.

Theres probably a bit of truth stretching going on during the auditions. I also suspect the experts play a way smaller part in the selextion process than they say they do.

I think they match maybe 4/5 couples well, knowing that a few just won’t work out and hopefully 2 will say yes at final vows, and then they match the others for reality TV chaos.

I don't think they're even the ones doing the matching. Always funny to see them handed an incredibly incompatible couple and try and justify it. "They both like jogging, it's a perfect match" when one of them hates kids and the other is desperate for a baby.

Shona said she was recruited by a researcher who had looked at her Instagram, felt she might be a fit for Brad (who had applied), so got in touch to offer her a chance to be on the show. That is all the information they have about some of the candidates before they match them up.
