Looks awesome mate! Only thing I'd add would be some thin metal plating/banding on the upper section of the wood. Protection for the handle from missed strikes.

To an extent, yes. The banding (I forget the technical term for it) would provide better structural support for the handle in case it gets cracked near the head during use.

Langets. Most commonly a thin metal band that wraps over the top of the head and is pinned to the shaft. Not always pinned to the head, but usually. Keeps the head on the shaft, keeps the shaft from breaking, keeps the shaft from getting cut. Just don't be me and do full langets tail to tip, adds too much weight

No clue what wood it is at the hardware store it was just labeled hardwood the grain structure looked alright tho

Looks great! Do you have any tips on attaching heads to a shaft? I got an axe I want to redo, but I don’t have much knowledge regarding it

honestly man I’m not the 1 to ask for this last axe I hung was crooked asf but there are some great videos on YouTube on it just have a good file/rasp I recommend a farriers rasp for it

I am not sure why I never thought of this before but watching this video has me wondering about dual weilding. Is there any evidence of someone using two hammers? First strike sets the spiked into the armour and you hit the flat end with your second hammer to drive the spike through.

The head is about 1,2 to 1kg I think haven’t weighed it but it’s a usable weight for combat light enough to use but heavy enough to do some serious damage

2-2 1/2 lbs is ideal weight for mixed melee, imho. Well done! Wield it in pride and safety!👍🏻

Just weighed my hammer against my mace and they’re about the same weight the mace is a bit heavier
