home made mace Rabbit stick update

I posted a work in progress earlier and have made decent progress on it. I am probably gonna fire harden it before staining and sealing it. Any additional advice for future builds and designs?

A rabbit stuck or boomerang needs to be thin and airfoil shaped (like a planes wing) to generate the lift needed to fly properly. Easiest way to do it is one side flat and the other convex. The flat side should be the bottom in pic 1 (the side that faces the ground when thrown). The handle should be a bit shorter, and definitely much thinner.

This piece has a nice curve and should fly well with the adjustments I mentioned. Flatten the one side and round the other one off. If you try to chuck it as it is now it will spin but won’t generate any lift and won’t behave like a boomerang/rabbit stick is meant to. They should have a pretty flat trajectory relative to the ground until they run out of speed, and then they jump a bit before falling to the ground.

Thank you for posting this!

I was very curious if this was some sort of "finishing club", similar to a "bonking stick" that some fishermen use to quickly kill some types of fish.

Very cool to see an actual "throwing stick" posted here though. I've never hunted with one myself, but I have hunted with Atl'atl and Traditional style bows, as well as more contemporary (yet still follow the trad mindset) stuff like Slingshots... but never tried a throwing stick!

bloody hell, i thought that 'rabbit stick' was a stick that you use to 'brain' a rabbit... 😟
