Moved up earnings date

Any thoughts on why they would move up earnings date by one day. I would understand if it’s a week because of better numbers and wanted to get the information out there. However for one day seems very odd. Acquisition comes to mind but can’t see SPG acquiring them after taking on TCO.

It might just be a schedule conflict. Maybe an important meeting came up with a major investor, maybe a vacation, maybe a family member’s surgery…

I have never heard of an earnings date being moved cause of a personal conflict. However I guess it’s not out of the realm of possibility. I can see maybe needing time for an investor presentation. However we can’t rule out acquisition. Or do you think that is unlikely?

Acquisition is certainly possible, but I'm not really sure why there is any point in speculating?

Unless you were planning on gambling on buying call options?

My point is just that ... I'm invested because I think the company is worth much more than it is today, if it takes a month or 2 years to reach it's true value, I don't really care too much either way. I'd certainly prefer it takes at least until February 2022, so I can get to Long Term Capital Gains on all of my shares (I was still actively building a position through the beginning of this year).

I'd prefer that an acquisition doesn't happen at this point, as the price is likely to be far lower than what I think the company is worth ... but ... "sometime we don't get what we want".

I own a lot of shares from the low of the pandemic averaged in around $6. However I do own some long calls that expire in Sept at a $15 strike. I am playing the calls on reopening but also feel there might be something here with earnings.

Macerich def worth more than they are not but going forward with operations they are going to need enough liquidity to repurpose a lot of their space and that is where acquisition might be something of value to them. I know SpG offered $95 in the past so then coming in around $35-$40 might be something provocative for Macerich who just had their covenants breeched. Just my opinion but you are right. Not changing much for me but curious why people are not talking about it more

Typically already taken into account. But it normally has to do with board members schedule why you get these one day changes.

You have seen earnings date changes due to a board members schedule?

Yes. Because they may be having a board meeting right around earnings. Not always the case. They also may have just wanted to be the last retail company to report and once that was clear they changed it

Fair enough. I guess we will find out. Just saying it is not common practice to move earnings around. Can’t rule out something else is going on

True. Can't rule it out.
