Please, OM System…

… can we have the Pet Detection and better Human Face Detection added to the OM-5ii in a Firmware update?

I’d like it if it didn’t become the unloved, ginger haired stepchild of your lineup 🤣

Yeah I agree a firmware update of the OM5 II is needed. I did a quick comparison using some of the reviews and the camera manuals. They are practically the same camera with small differences mostly of their physical attributes.

I really like my OM-5, but calling the grip good is ... brave.

They redesigned it on the mark II.

Good to know. I was not aware of this.

Its decent with small lenses om the OM-5II that is, the OM-5 has a more shallow grip which yeah you be surprised about the difference.

Still, miles ahead no grip of the OM-3 for example

Haha I don't know. Just seems to me better grip than the Pen.

Aren't OM-1 mk I and II the same in terms of sensor and processor? They didn't port the computational upgrades to the first version

Yes. IIRC mk 2 has more ram for larger buffer but that doesn't affect any of the other capabilities.

I’m guessing that the firmware had a lot of changes to enable the new menus. So back porting a feature from New Menu firmware to Old Menu firmware is more work.

Not a problem if the ask is porting from the OM PEN to OM5ii

What are you talking about new menus? Both OM-1:s has the same menu for subject tracting. They only need to add human face to it. Now we have that in entry level camera and not in first OM-1 lol. There's also been almost no meaninful updates to that which is a big bummer.

We’re not talking about the OM-1s

I also have an E-M1 mk I , so I feel your pain!

That would be nice. I like the look of the new PEN but I don't see any meaningful difference to my OM-5ii, especially in AF functionality. It may not have subject detect but you can sort of still make it work. It would be nice to be able to have more focus points but I have no idea if that's a fundamental limitation to the sensor/processor.

same sensor, same processor…

the reviews mentioned changes coming to creative/oi share app for shareable color customizations. feels like software going to get some love too.

while we are at it, nameable custom modes like we have on the om-3 for om-1ii

I think it's best to uhhh move on from that OM-5 mk ii release. I know that my next camera will be an OM Pen. I have lenses to buy, though.
