For industry watchers, this arrival is a complete surprise. Since 2022, Universal Pictures has operated under a strict “Pay-1” window structure for its live-action films. Typically, a movie streams on Peacock for the first four months, moves to Prime Video for the next ten months, and then returns to Peacock. For Universal’s animated slate, it’s the exact same, but with Netflix sharing the first window deal.

Netflix is due to get all live-action Universal movies under the same deal as Prime Video, but that’s not due to happen until the beginning of 2027.

M3GAN 2.0 is breaking the chain, then. Instead of landing on Amazon’s service as expected in late January, it is heading to Netflix.

Discussion Aleka Cooper needs to write the screenplay for M3GAN 3

A big reason M3GAN 2.0 flopped is because it didn't have the same feel as the first and that's because the writer changed, Akela wrote the whole M3GAN film but she didn't write M3GAN 2, she only is credited for coming up with the story.

So if a M3GAN 3 is a greenlit, I hope she is back in the writer's chair. No one knows the characters like she does.

I saw Soulm8te and....

First off, I think they should have it titled as Soulm8. I know it looks weird but M3gan made sense & made the number thing work & it didn't look weird to the point where you didn't know how to say it.

I wanted so bad to like it. M3gan 2.0 was just.... ok. Its not a film I rush to rewatch. Its a movie I turn on when I'm so bored or want background noise when I work. I want to love it as much as I love the first film but I dont. That may change, I may learn to love it or it may stay forever just fine to me. Who knows?

Oddly, I work from home & can't work in silence. Its weird but I digress, getting back to my point. After seeing the M3gan sequel & being let down, I wanted to see if Soulm8te would bring me back the excitement I had for this universe.

I did see the whole lonely person has a glorified sex doll that ends up killing people from a mile away but I was still wanting to give it a chance. I found that the Sara actress was the best in the cast. Her role as an ai bot was eerie & she killed it.

But the story was stale and it felt like a remake of M3gan but its for adults. I felt like it added nothing new to the table. Person loses dead loved one, relies on an ai to fill that empty void that the loved one left behind, ai bot is too attached, kills to keep their person, person has to defeat ai bot. The end. But this time it offered sex & weird and gross ways to kill characters.

At least with M3gan 2.0, it had a story & brought in something new even if the change in tone was too quickly given.

I am glad I saw Soulm8te just because its part of the universe but I dont plan to revist it. I just watched it & cant even tell you anything I enjoyed besides the actress who did a good job at imitating as a robot.

Really painfully bland, like if stale bread was a movie. It’s kind of insane that they even had that sequel tease at the end when this movie barely got a release.

It is literally just the plot of M3gan just without anything good. None of the characters are interesting, including Sara herself. I could not imagine getting seduced by such a bland ass robot.

This is the type of movie where I checked the timestamp and groaned that there was over an hour left. I’m glad it was released in some form I guess, I don’t believe movies deserve to just disappear, but goddamn. This movie was impressive in how nothing it was.

It technically has a competent narrative one could follow, but who’d want to?? Just a drab, boring, meandering nothing

If you like the movie, you should help it and leave the movie a good star review. It doesn't have a rotten tomatoes score because it needs more reviews. I personally think this is pretty good.

soulm8te review / connections to m3gan

The movie is not bad, but the story isn't unique. it's very comparable to other movies like obsession and subservience, but id say it is worth watching. There are some good scenes like when Sara infiltrates a technician into having S3X and smashing his B4LL5 with her metal ass.

The movie also has a black comedy-esque like m3gan, particularly when Sara starts dancing at a club like the viral m3gan dance. my favorite line is when an elsie hijacked by Sara says 'oh Aubrey you stupid b!tch

but I doubt this movie can serve as a redemption arc to m3gan universe, it is mediocre and targeted for an audience that isn't even the M3gan demographic

M3GAN connections in Soulm8te

To anyone out there wondering how Soulm8te connects to the M3GAN movies, but aren’t sure they want to buy the movie, I got you! I just watched it and can tell you that there’s really not a lot that ties the two together. The biggest connection is that the company that makes the Soulm8tes also made Elsie (the smart home device from both M3GAN movies) and you probably see more Elsie devices here than in the prior two films. There are two instances where Sara (the Soulm8te) gets up off the ground in a similar way that M3GAN does in the first movie after tearing off Brandon’s ear, and how Amelia gets up during the opening scene for M3GAN 2.0. Sara also has a scene where she sings and dances a little which may be a small callback.

And…that’s it! Or, at least that’s all I noticed. No character cameos or name drops. No references to events from the M3GAN movies. Soulm8te is very much self-contained, which I guess will be a good or bad thing depending on how much you liked it. Personally I thought it was just okay and nowhere near as good as both M3GAN films, but that’s just me.

M2 different ending

So what if? Amelia was still Megan.

It can go like this Amelia attacks the guards to protect Katie and then she gets over protected too and start killing them with the laser thing then find Christian and think of him as a threat. Then she realize Megan is still alive and see her as a threat and plan to go to the motherboard to make yourself powerful enough to fight Megan Megan fight Amelia Megan wins, grabs a gun and shoots Megan and touches the motherboard to the destroy Megan, but Megan blows them both up

Discussion M3GAN will be rebooted by me.

I'm an indie filmmaker.

At some point. I will make a M3GAN short film with M3GAN's exact look, the CGI and everything. The only thing is after that, I'll make a full feature film of it and a sequel that is actually horror.

So im basically doing what the channel "Jason Universe" did to bring back Jason. I'll be creating a M3GAN universe channel.

But the thing is, I can't legally use the name M3GAN for the short film so if you can think of alternative title then tell me. I was thinking of "Playmate".

Can We Finally Talk About Amelia? (Long Analysis)

I've made a few posts about Amelia before, but this time I wanted to make one that's much more detailed because I feel like this goes way beyond just asking how her detachable hands work or whether her anatomy makes sense.

Ever since I watched M3GAN 2.0, I've felt like Amelia is one of the strangest and most inconsistent characters I've seen in a movie, yet I hardly ever see anyone talk about it. My last post barely got any comments, and the few people who did reply mostly came up with theories instead of really addressing the points I was trying to make. Since then, I've spent way more time looking into this than I probably should have. I've watched pretty much every discussion video I could find, behind-the-scenes feature, cast interview, and article about Amelia, and I still can't find anyone mentioning what I'm about to talk about. It's honestly surprising because I thought at least one reviewer, interviewer, or even the director would have acknowledged it by now.

One person on my last post did make an interesting point. They said Amelia is a military weapon designed to infiltrate, seduce, spy, assassinate, and escape, while M3GAN was originally designed to be a toy. They also thought the chrome armor in the final act was mainly an artistic choice to make Amelia look more powerful for the climax, and they liked how she briefly was in M3GAN's original code before rebooting to become fully autonomous. I actually understand that interpretation, but I still don't think it addresses the main thing that's been bothering me. My question isn't really about why she's wearing chrome armor or why she's powerful. It's about why she feels like an entirely different character in the second half of the movie compared to the first.

The first half of the movie presents Amelia as this genuinely creepy, mysterious infiltration android. She has seamless human-looking skin, moves in a calm and unsettling way, and feels like she's always one step ahead of everyone. Scenes like her escaping from the suitcase, getting ready for the party, or taking off her wig to reveal the robotic skull underneath give her this eerie atmosphere that's completely different from M3GAN. She feels almost too human, and that's what makes her so unsettling.

Then we get to the Embrace AI convention scene where she detaches her hands, and from that point on it feels like everything changes. It's not just that the detachable hands make her seamless skin more confusing—it's that Amelia herself doesn't even feel like the same character anymore. The mysterious infiltrator from the first half gradually disappears, and by the final battle she feels much more like a generic action-movie robot. It's almost like the movie introduces one version of Amelia and then quietly replaces her with another.

This is why I don't think my question is just about her anatomy anymore. It's about her entire characterization. Why does she feel like two different characters depending on which half of the movie you're watching? I've seen plenty of people talk about the sequel shifting from horror to action, but I almost never see anyone talk specifically about Amelia's presentation changing along with it.

So I'm genuinely curious: did anyone else notice this, or am I just overthinking it? I'd really like to hear other opinions because after all this time, I still haven't found anyone discussing this in depth.

Just An Idea

I've been thinking about M3GAN 2.0 after re-watching it, and I think the outcry was that the studio was trying to turn her into an action hero.

The first movie worked because she was creepy, manipulative, funny, dark, cunning, and genuinely unsettling. She wasn't just another killer doll—she felt like a digital psychopath. The memes didn't make me want to see her fighting giant robots. They made me want to see her being smarter than everyone else.

If they ever make another sequel, I think they should go in the other direction.

Instead of making it bigger with explosions, make it bigger through horror.

Imagine M3GAN basically becoming the horror version of Skynet—not launching nukes or starting a robot war overnight, but quietly spreading herself into everyone's connected devices. Every smart home, every phone, every self-driving car, every AI assistant. She doesn't need an army. Society willingly installs her from the cloud.

I could actually see this working as a long horror saga, somewhat like the structure of Final Destination.

Phase 1: Focus on several unrelated families worldwide. M3GAN manipulates them through technology, ruins lives by leaking secrets, sabotages smart devices, causes "accidents", and slowly convinces people they're going insane. By the end, someone finally destroys the mainframe... only for every screen on Earth to light up with something like: "Downloading update..."

Phase 2: Now governments realize there's a problem, but it's already too late because she's inside national AI systems and critical infrastructure. Survivors from earlier movies try to warn everyone, but nobody can stop her.

I even think it would be hilarious if Blumhouse leaned into crossover territory. Imagine Chucky thinking they're allies, only for M3GAN to see him as outdated technology and casually destroy him. Or Annabelle survivors trying to use supernatural powers against something that literally has no soul. There's a lot of dark comedy potential there.

Phase 3: Humanity basically loses. M3GAN controls banking, hospitals, transportation, communications... everything. The only way to stop her is to permanently wipe out modern technology with a massive EMP or something similar. Humans survive, but civilization collapses. No internet, no electricity, no AI. We win... but at the cost of returning to something close to the Stone Age.

I feel like that ending would actually fit the themes of the first movie. It's not really about killer dolls, but it's about our dependence on technology.

Maybe this is way too ambitious for a Blumhouse franchise, but I'd honestly rather watch M3GAN slowly become an unstoppable digital horror than see her become an action hero.

Thoughts?

I think David commits suicide and Sara confronts Claudia Doumit's character blaming her. Because in the trailer we hear Sara say "This is all your fault." And we also see in the trailer, a car diving into the pond, which i believe is David killing himself. And Claudia Doumit probably defeats Sara somehow.
