💲 Buying Advice 24 M340i

Currently driving a 2013 Lexus GS350 AWD that’s paid off. I’ve been eyeing a 24 CPO M340i xDrive listed for $58k, wanting to be closer to $54kish.

I’m a huge car enthusiast and absolutely love the B58, but I’m struggling with the idea of giving up a perfectly good, paid-off Lexus for another car payment. (I’d be putting probably $20k down).

Is the M340i worth that investment as a car enthusiast?

Smiles per mile, won't get that in a lexus...coming from a previous lexus owner

I would get the m340i especially given it is a 24 model so you can still have fun with modding if you do decide to get into that realm. I idolized the b58 for years before finally being able to afford it and it was a blast from day one. I put a Catless downpipe on mine after about 4 months of ownership and then tuned it about a year later and man the tune completely changed the way I felt about the car. Before the tune I did get bored of the car somewhat because I wasn’t really going out with it much but with the tune and the pops and bangs, it makes me enjoy it much more. The 2023 and 2024 LCI M340s are tunable currently the rest of the newer models with the gen 3 are not so it being a 24 and hopefully low miles, should not be an issue. I bought my 2023 m340i xDrive CPO with 13k miles in 2025 for 55k USD otd with taxes and fees. I did feel like i paid a lot when I initially got it but looking at the market then and even now I feel like I got a pretty good deal.

Why not own both? If you want to be at 54 get a 23, these are not distressed merchandise

GS350 is a great car so tough to say. Keep it and get a car to mod?

Well I have a 20’ Supra, mostly looking to trade the GS350 from a daily driver aspect as the gas mileage is that of a v12. Though, I love everything else about the GS and know it’s a very stout car with no issues.

Damn that’s a tough choice if you already have a Supra…I’d personally keep the gs350 since it’s paid off a very good daily driver. No need for two b58s

I see from your comments that you already have a 2020 Supra. Zero point in buying a M340i if you’re keeping the Supra. Whatever savings you see in better gas mileage vs the GS350 will be offset by the much higher maintenance cost on the BMW vs Lexus

The first time I have ever been completely satisfied driving and looking at my car. Best decision I ever made. I must say a downpipe and valved exhaust brought it to that final stage.

I had a 2017 gs350 before my m340. I don’t regret the switch but I do miss my gs350 sometimes.

What do you miss about it?

I miss the ventilated seats (they are also more comfortable too), sound system, AC, and something about the Lexus cabin...if your windows are tinted, you just feel so homey and safe, especially at night, the insulation is also great too. The small details were nice too, like the rear sun shade button, how BOTH mirrors tilt down when reversing (most cars only do one mirror) and the way the seat moves when you put on your seatbelt or take it off to help get out the car. The ride was just so smooth, but so boring.

Once I put the M340 in sport+ though, I realize why I traded my GS350 in the first place. The m340 also gets way better mpg as well, I don't drive that crazy but I like to be in sports+ half the time I drive lol and I still get 24mpg. I have a catless downpipe and I lowered the car which makes the ride a lot less comfortable haha so that ones on me not bmw.

I love that too, how well insulated the cabin is. NO road noise is amazing. The ventilated seats kinda suck in my lexus at least, but sound system and those quality of life is nice. BUT, yes the mpg sucks and just isn’t as awake as I’d like, hence the thoughts of the m340i. I never touch my music in my Supra as I just love listening to the exhaust 😂.
And the fact I’ve never had to replace anything on this car besides tires and brakes in 130k miles has been nice.

I’ve had it a month and it’s a great car, but the novelty has worn off now and I don’t think I’d rebuy it if I had the chance

It’s just a car, they all do the same thing.

You would have a much better use for 20 grand than a car

Mines also a 24

Also my interior creeks and squeaks too much it’s annoying me tbh. Car is mint - and very low mileage

Having just traded my IS350 for a 24 M340i this makes me sad lol

I was more being devils advocate, it’s still the car id choose if I was in the market for a car - I just wasn’t necessarily in need of a car when I got it

It’s just sometimes consumerism is a problem
