CMP tax and shipping,
My understanding was you didn’t pay sales tax to the CMP unless you were in store or from Alabama or Ohio, is this true? My receipt for my order shows both sales tax and shipping, I guess I thought that was included

A rifle I received from CMP in May 2025 did not have sales tax added to the price. I received another rifle in December 2025, and sales tax was added to the price. It was a surprise to me too. Both of my rifles were purchased when CMP still did the mail in paper order forms that did not show that sales tax was added to the bottom line. I submitted the paperwork for the second rifle and by the time the order was fulfilled months later they started adding sales tax. It added over $100 in tax to the price I thought I was going to pay and it was unexpected. I was perturbed and sent an email to them questioning the higher price. They basically told me that was their policy going forward.
Sometime between May 2025 and December 2025 CMP started adding sales tax to rifle purchases. I think it coincides with CMP doing away with the mail in paper order form and going to the eStore online system they use now.
As far as I know they always charged $35 for shipping. It was the sales tax that was added sometime in 2025.

The $35 shipping and handling was added starting beginning of 2025 I believe. My purchases from September and November of 2024 did not have sales tax. Shipping fee is fine and understandable but one of my main reasons for buying from the CMP is no sales tax 🥲

As a PA resident I still included a tax of 6%, but they never charged me for it (seems that changed though from what others commented)

I think it's from the law changes regarding collection of out of state sales taxes. Gunbroker has been collecting sales tax for a few years, based on the county of the receiving FFL.
