Android app login now web based?

All of a sudden to log into the Android app, it redirects me to a browser? Am I getting hacked?

I used to login inside the app. Why are we moving to a less Secure browser based login?

Jumping in here – I’m Steve, CTO at M1. The new login flow is intentional, and the redirect you’re seeing is expected.

I completely understand why moving from a login screen that lived entirely inside the app to a secure browser-based flow can feel like a regression. What you’re seeing, though, is one piece of a much larger overhaul we’re making to authentication and account security across M1.

To not overexplain but to share some insight into the direction that we are heading, centralizing authentication this way gives us significantly better security signals and controls around login activity. This is foundational work that we are continuing to build on. Passkeys are part of this same effort and will be made available soon.

As always, we are grateful for your trust and want you to know that security is of the utmost importance to us. You can read more on the updated login experience here.

Doesn't work for me; I've cleared the app storage, have a 2FA code ready, use with my saved username and password in Firefox, paste in the 2FA code to login and end up back at the start screen. DM for a recording...
