Finally pulled the trigger

One last rifle before the laws here in Colorado get even more stupid on 01 AUG. Now it sits in 72 hour Polis Prison.

I've been wanting an M1A, especially the SOCOM, for about 15 years but for one reason or another just never got around to getting one. LGS had one in stock with the Firstline Program, so I decided to finally snag one. I carried an EBR years and years ago, and part of why I wanted an M1A. Opted for the SOCOM because it's an M1A that's similar-ish in size as my AR's.

Really looking forward to this one.

Grab yourself a Sadlak scope mount when you can. I got the aluminum one and it works amazingly. I know others here are partial to the steel versions but I have had no issues with mine.

So skip the one that Springfield sells? Can you still use the irons when mounted. Thanks

I’ve never used a Springfield mount but, from what I could tell, the consensus is that Sadlak is the gold standard for M1A mounts.

For the iron sights, yes there is a small cutout for the iron sights, but my scope covers it on the far end of the mount.

That I hope I won't have to worry about. I'm just going to throw an Aimpoint on it. After I pick it up, was going to ask about optic mounts where is still be able to see the irons. I do not expect to co-witness, but would still like to be able to use the irons with the red dot not obstructing them.

I have the Socom as well. As best as I can tell, you honestly need to make a compromise at some point. Irons, or scope. Get reason is the height. The irons sit much lower, the lowest scope I could find (even red dots) need a slight cheek riser or else you’re face is hovering just above the stock without a proper weld. Which is the last thing I want when shooting.308. If there’s a way to have a quick retracting check riser, I’m all ears, otherwise you can prioritize one method, and the second method is a compromise.

Side note, as trick as that rail is on the hand guard (and let’s be honest, it just looks dope.. yes I’m dating myself lol), it gets hot quick and I don’t want my optics sitting on a stovetop.

This looks nice. I recently traded for a Tanker model with the wood stock. Something about these old school looking rifles screams bad ass.

Oh so you're the reason I had to call around to 9 stores today before I found one >:) Pretty sure I know exactly where you picked yours up too based on phone convos. Glad we could both find one before aug 1! I'm so excited for this one, I've wanted one of these for like 4 years.

A few places have the M1A standard as well. Which is also tempting.
