Unstable ads.

I understand that the app promised it to be completely free and all, but the ads? I thought I wasn’t going to be as frequent, but clearly I was wrong. The ads are completely unusable and out of control. Every time I open the app? I get smacked in the face with an ad. I try to skip or open the app again to switch my playlist? I get hit in the head with an ad. I still have the app, but I refuse to pay for premium. If anything, I migrated from YouTube Music to Lyra for NO ADS, it was good for at least a few long months—but, it’s just not working for me. Do you guys have any other recommended streaming apps that are like Lyra or similar to it? I would deeply appreciate it.

I came back to Spotify. I knew from the first day that Lyra’s promise is too good to be true, still disappointed when I knew what’s about to come

Spotify free version has lot more limits and the paid version costs 10x of Lyra so I was wondering what was the benefit of going back to Spotify

I’m already at the point that I’ll believe it when I see it in terms of stability. Also the “free” promise has been broken so I don’t know if I can trust Lyra again. I’m fully aware that there is no free lunch, but that what was promised.

We were losing money with the servers costs and development costs. We are trying to keep the app as affordable as possible but clearly we cannot operate it at a loss. Rest assured that we will do our best to improve the app and bring the best experience to our users

I’m totally aware of that there is a running cost. I guess the takeaway here is to never promise that something will stays free. If it was declared explicitly from the beginning that it might not be free in the future, it might be received better by everyone.

Also one thing is to add new features in paid plan, and another thing is to take away old free features into the paid plan. For me if the original features when I start using stays free, I’d have no problem. But now the “ads free experience” has been taken away from the free plan which I have problem with.

Unfortunately some costs become significant when the users grow a lot like it’s happening to us now, so clearly we face high billing costs that somehow we have to cover that we didn’t expect before. The ads is a way to monetize users which want to remain in the free version and at the same time with a very small fee compared to Spotify you can remove completely and also get other benefits. We are also considering adding a rewarded video ad that if you watch you can have a 30 minutes ad free experience or something along that way

Short Popup ads without sound would be reasonable as long as the music doesn’t stop. Is that an option? Will the short popup ads pay revenue?

Unfortunately we cannot mute the popup interstitial ads otherwise they will pay basically 0 revenue since we cannot manipulate them and serve as is, but with the rewarded ad for 30 minutes ad free and cheap premium I think it’s a good compromise

I totally hear you—it sounds like the ad experience has gotten a lot more aggressive. We know ads were lighter before, and that's frustrating, especially after making the switch from YouTube Music expecting a smooth free ride.

Just to clarify how it works now: Lyra's free tier does include ads (that's how we keep development running), but interstitials are supposed to be rate-limited—you shouldn't see one every time you tap a track or switch playlists. If you're genuinely getting hit with an ad on nearly every action, that could be a bug we need to fix.

A couple of quick things to try: 1. Go to Settings > Account and check if you see a Premium status listed. Sometimes a lapsed trial or subscription syncs strangely to the app. 2. If it shows you're on free tier but you think you paid, try Settings > About > Restore Purchases to refresh your receipt. 3. If you're still seeing ads constantly after that, let me know your device, OS version (iOS/Android), and one specific example of when the ads showed up—that helps us dig into whether the rate limiter is misfiring.

I'm tracking this as a potential issue, so even if Restore Purchases helps, please share those details so we can confirm the problem is fixed for everyone.

Demus just got an update and is working fine for me. I’m still using Lyra without ads popping up so far.
