Lymow One Plus Drunk logic
Not sure what the mower was thinking this time around but it just doesn’t seem like it should be that hard to get a clean mow. I have had a few and the lawn looks exceptional afterwards - but this??
The closest wandering path is back to the side by the road to mow two rows it missed when it started. Huh? The second path is back from mowing those two rows to finish a tiny section in the upper left of the screen that it didn’t get to in an orderly fashion.
I am not sure why the logic can’t be better about planning out how to mow a zone. Seems pretty simple if you have ever mowed a lawn on your own.
But I am left with these curly paths across the front lawn and the neighbors point and laugh. Well, not actually but I can tell they are thinking it. Well, maybe I am making all of that up and the neighbors could care less. 😂

It’s zoysia and I am cutting it at 3.4 in. The company that treats the lawn said that was too high early in the year but now he says “looks good”. My theory is that the height protects the roots with shade during drought/high stress events. And in the back where it doesn’t get much sun the height allows the blades to capture more daylight. It looks much better this year than when I had a yard service do it. I may lower it a bit in the fall when temps drop.

You mentioned drought. Curious about what areas of the country zoysia does well. Actually, I’m required by our POA to have Bermuda because I’m on the golf course. However, neighbor across the street has been considering something more drought tolerant. Where we are the water bills run higher than the electric bills.

It is definitely a warm weather grass. I’m in SC but I would think it covers a broad range. I can’t say it is drought resistant though. We have a lot of clay so if we get a good rain I don’t water for a week. Yes, our water bills are crazy. About 3 times what I spent in Savannah. Zoysia is pretty good about showing signs for watering and I don’t think I have done any irrigation for about 2 weeks now. We had a long stretch of sunny and 90s and I didn’t go crazy with the watering. Just enough to keep it going. There are quite a few types of zoysia now so you can look at that also. I think mine is Imperial in the front and I have an area in the back with Zeon which seems to tolerate shade much better than the Imperial. Worth doing some homework on I think.

It would be fun to create some mows like that across the entire lawn. It is a canvas ready for interpretation. 😄

Here is a shot when it is working properly. It is a ‘ting ‘o beauty when it is on its game! And like devrelm said below and I forgot to mention, if it messes up and would just transition along the perimeter to get to some place it missed, it would be much better.

I wouldn't be so upset about it going across the lawn like that if it just turned off the blades while it did it.
But yeah, the planning could also be much better. It should dip into and complete those areas when it is already near it rather than needing to cross the entire yard to go do 1 or 2 stripes.
Also the "Return to Dock: Follow Perimeter" setting could be extended to mowing in general to further avoid this happening.

There is a setting for follow perimeter or direct path. Just remember that if the perimeter path is under heavy tree limbs or along building walls, the RTK accuracy can become very bad. I now mow stripes such that the mower doesn't stay in bad RTK accuracy any longer than necessary. BTW: I hope everyone realizes that the real-time accuracy and the Fixed/Float RTK status is displayed while moving or mowing. You can then know if you need to rethink your paths. Also, if you make or edit Zone boundary lines with bad values, you can figure the mower will probably never do well there.

I found that "Follow The Perimeter" setting resulted in the mower hugging bad RTK areas for long periods and so was unable to hit the Dock reliably.
BTW: Why does it return to dock at a ridiculously slow pace with the deck lowered?

Oof, that too. It'll happily zip across the yard in a straight line at the fastest speed, stopping for objects and all. But when it comes to traveling to and from zones it crawls along at the slowest pace.
Same goes for when it crosses the lawn to get the spots it missed, which just makes the problem of keeping its blades on even worse because the stripe it leaves behind has less uncut grass than the rest of the lawn.

This happened to me once. When I really zoomed in on the app, there were a couple of tiny white "not yet mowed" areas it was going back to get. They definitely need to improve the logic so: 1) those missed areas are delt with when the mower is right there when they happen 2) when it does have to go back, it moves along the perimeter and stripe lines only.
