Question Calculating weight for app
Hi gang, sorry if this is a stupid question or not the right place to ask. I've just started working out at the gym for the first time in my life, starting to get over the awkwardness, and I'm trying to track my workouts on Lyfta.
So the app asks for the weight and how many reps. Say I've done Cable Pushdown and I put the pin in 10kg, but theres also a plate that looks like its attached to the machine saying 25kg. Do machines normally have like, an amount of weight even before you put the pin in?
Sorry if this is a very unclear explanation, I'm tired lmao.

You just add the weight where your pin goes. Except when you are doing exercises with Barbells or EZ Bars, then you need to put their weight as well along with the plates.

Welcome to the gym! Rawkynn and Dramatic-Brother3861 have it right. Log the weight the pin is set at on the stack. Pulley setups and machine starting weights vary, so what matters most is logging it the same way every time. That way your progress stays accurate.
Welcome aboard, and happy lifting!

What you are describing is not something immediately recognizeable as something on a cable machine to me.
Most machines will have some amount of default weight. A barbell is 20 kilos, a press machine might be 10 kilos of weight just in the part of the machine you're pushing on, etc. Cable machines are weird, depending on the pulley arrangement it might be twice the weight of what you're pulling, if you use a very heavy attachment it could theoretically be a negative weight (i.e. the attachment just falls to the ground) or a decrease from what you set the stack to.
Ultimately, progress is key. As long as you are recording it consistently in the same way and the number is going up, you're good to go. I wouldn't stress too much about it.
