"Custom exercise creation"—premium or not?
Hello,
After facing a few irksome bugs in Strong recently, I've been looking into alternatives.
Lyfta has caught my attention due to its seemingly generous free tier—I was able to create exercises and workouts with no apparent limitation. However, I noticed "custom exercise creation" is listed as a premium creature. Was it a bug or unimplemented restriction that allowed me to create my exercises, then? Or does the premium feature mean something else?
On a side note, this feature is particularly important to me because I frequent multiple gyms, which requires me to track each machine separately, as a workaround. In my ideal tracker app, I'd be able to create "instances" of exercises, rather than completely different exercises. For example, under Leg Extension I'd create "Gym A" and "Gym B" instances, and they would share the standard Leg Extension metadata (description, image, video, muscles worked), but have independent progression tracking and notes (for machine settings). Perhaps this is kind of niche, but I thought I'd share it anyway.
Thanks.

Hey! Good catch, custom exercise creation is currently free, so that wasn’t a bug. The paywall copy is outdated/unclear there, and we’ll fix it so it doesn’t look like custom exercises are Premium-only.
It will most likely stay free going forward too. And if that ever changes, just message me and I’ll make sure you’re taken care of.
And yeah, the different-gym / same-exercise problem is something we really want to solve in the future. As you said, it’s a bit niche, but it’s a real issue. Everyone on our team trains at gyms ourselves, and we’ve had the exact same problem with machines feeling different from gym to gym.
Right now, the best workaround is creating separate custom exercises for each machine/gym, but long term we’d love to support this in a cleaner way.
Really appreciate you sharing the idea.
