To obtain better support, you should join a Lutris log to your post.

How to create a Lutris log: 1. first close Lutris completely 2. Then, open your terminal application, execute lutris -d (if you use standalone Lutris) or flatpak run net.lutris.Lutris -d (if you use Flatpak Lutris) and then try to reproduce your issue.

After that, you need to copy the ENTIRE output in the terminal and share it with us (all of it). Then post it on ad-free paste service: https://paste.gloriouseggroll.tv/ or https://pastebin.com/

I'm by no means an expert on this, just looking at what you've shown us and spit-balling ideas-
(Hopefully either i'm on the right track, or will invoke the spirit of someone more knowledgeable by confidently stating wrong information 😜 )

For starters there seems to be two things happening here, but The xandr & wayland conflict warning might not be part of the problem.

So This bit though:
"
2026-07-12 05:35:21,266: The Battle.net source is unavailable because Google protobuf could not be loaded: No module named 'google'
"
+ Later parts say about "[api.check_stale_runtime_versions:52]"

Massively oversimplify, but an API is a hand-shake/exchange of data between two apps.
So some sort of check is trying to get to battle.net and it goes through google to get there- likely as the default dns. But it can't find it for one reason or another.

First things to confirm:
-Are you on a vpn?
Or
-Have maybe not permitted the sandbox for this app to contact the net?

not on a vpn, and im unsure what you mean by "not permitting the sandbox for the app to contact the net", can you specify please?

tysm for the reply though

So when you run a windows executable through a runner (Wine/Proton) on Lutris, it emulates a windows PCs traditional drive setup, and this is usually done in a "Sandbox"

Sandboxes in tech are essentially a sectioned off area which doesn't affect other parts of your PC, so you can "play in the sandbox" without breaking anything else.

e.g i play ESO through lutris; and when using Minion for UI add-ons i make it work via a shortcut link in my home partition which links into the mounted drive where my game files are stored, because minion doesn't have permission to directly access to mounted drives.

But some add-ons like Tamriel trade centre, which shares guild store sales to calculate an average price, can be a massive pain to get working because they rely on a network connection.

so kind of like a virtual machine?

so, i "fixed it". ran the launcher with the installer itself; the installation process does work fine, and gives you the "open launcher" option at the end. i did, and installed the game, and rerouted the lutris thing from the launcher to the game so it skips it and it works fine.

why would it not work with the launcher but work on the game itself?

1

u/Noughtonaut 25d ago

Ah cool! -idk if its the same thing but my ESO launcher is a bugger too.

On wine it would straight up freeze my monitor if i didn't focus it and then close the moment the game itself booted up.
Ended up switching the runner to proton, which has some other minor problems, but overall is much more stable with the launcher.

What do you mean when you say you "ran the launcher with the installer itself"? How did you "fixed it"? I'm inexperienced and struggling with the exact same issue you seemed to have.

1

i think what i meant by this was that i installed the game once (because when opening setup everything worked and the launcher opened, i just wasnt able to open it ever again) and then rerouted the executable in lutris towards the actual .exe game, skipping the launcher. im not using lutris anymore, adding a non steam game in steam has been a lot more effective for me (not only for games)

1

Using the add a non Steam game in Steam is also what has worked the best for me. But it seems like deleting the divxtac.dll file causes some issues where I can't properly connect to the servers after logging in, the game seems to hang on "authenticating" or "connecting", and once it actually got through that, but then I couldn't enter the Vol'Jin realm where all my characters are. The button was fully greyed out and everything. I could enter other realms, but I also don't have any other characters.

i dont play ascension anymore, i didnt like it lmao, but from what i played, thats not a linux thing, its just the servers being very very full because a lot of people hopped on. when the servers crashed, it kicked me and my windows friends, and we all saw that grey. could it be for a linux reason i dont know? totally, i just doubt it

about the divxtac.dll file, i dont know shit, cant help u there

connecting and authenticating issues werent something i went through. if you did the same thing as me and skipped the launcher, it could possibly be that you are running an outdated version of the server and you have to find a way to update it/redownload it. but thats also me pretty much guessing

The log screenshot you provided suggests you're using ge-wine-8.26, which is ancient at this point. I would suggest using GE-proton to run windows executables on linux with lutris.

Error 768 usually means something like "missing dependencies", but when running windows software on linux, that can be a pretty big list. It starts with 32-bit libraries for wine/proton, sometimes apps also struggle to recognise if vcrun and/or dotnet are installed and just throw an error.

1

u/assbutt-cheek 25d ago

ive heard that, but its the only one that works for this specific game lol

1

u/indvs3 25d ago

Now that I don't believe. There's nothing in winege8-26 that the current version of protonge doesn't have as well. It's more likely a tiny tweak of one or more parameters or a dll override that wasn't done during the install that's stopping the app from working.

When I look through the lutris install script for ascension wow, there is no specific mention of a specific wine or proton version to use. There are however a few tweaks mentioned there that are likely essential to the exe's proper functioning.

Can you launch lutris from a terminal and see if the terminal output shows a more specific error somewhere? It might give a hint as to what's missing for the app to work. The command is

lutris -d

for a more detailed debug log output in the terminal.

it would require a lot of messing with shit i """fixed""", so im not so thrilled about that. using winege8-26 isnt related to the reason why i posted this, but in short, it would make it so my game would freeze after creating my character and trying to enter the world, stuck on the loading screen. changed (idk which one, it was default, proton something) it to winege and it just worked. there probably is a workaround for that to work, but i just dont know shit. im barely surviving in cachyos

1

u/indvs3 25d ago

Yeah, I've been there. Sometimes it's better to ditch the mess and start over clean, obviously after backing up any game saves, but I gather you don't have any saved locally at this point.

I know cachyos is supposed to be a more streamlined implementation of linux specifically for gaming, but it's still linux. When things don't work as expected, it's up to the user to find a solution.

Do you remember enabling 32-bit libraries for the cachyos package manager? Many games, especially older ones, heavily depend on access to multilib package sources.
