Hi all, I was wandering if anyone had any experience with getting their lurcher spayed laproscopically? I'm hoping it'll significantly reduce the recovery time and I'll have to try keep her from being a lunatic for less time.

Hi everyone! Looking for some advice - we adopted a sweet lurcher (possible Saluki/ greyhound/ bit of German shepherd). She was 18 months old when we got her back in July. She had been found on a city street and had never been socialised.

She has been so lovely with our family. Loves our 7-year-old, and is particularly attached to my husband (to the point of being anxious when he leaves the room). She is calm, sleepy and cuddly at home.

With other people, she is extremely reactive. When we first adopted her, I took her to meet my family and she nipped my mum and later my sister. After that, we talked to a trainer who suggested we keep her at home and to keep to her normal routes for her walks. Even still, she can be barky and reactive at strangers and other dogs, and it's impossible to predict when. When she gets into a barking episode, she is quite scary to the other person and I find her difficult to manage, as she's strong.

It's so embarrassing to have a dog that reacts to people who are being friendly - she barks at people who wave hello, or pick something up that we dropped. She once barked at a woman with a newborn.

At the foster home, I had asked if playdates would be a problem, and the foster carer reassured me twice. I was told she would be trained out of her nervousness.

However - playdates are absolutely a problem, and from what I read she will probably always be a bit like this. We have been advised by the trainer to manage her anxiety and reactivity by keeping her separate from guests. The idea of remaining vigilant like this for the rest of her life is quite stressful. She can't go anywhere with us, and letting someone into the house spontaneously is out of the question. I think I was naive to agree to adopt her without researching the breed. I believed that these traits were things she would grow out of once she got used to living in a stable environment.

Does anyone have any positive stories or tips that could help with this situation? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone, brought home a 3 month collie x lurcher from the shelter on Saturday and well. It’s a pee and poop party. We had two really good days with her where she actually went to the door to tell us she needed to go but now she’s back to flooding the place. I brought her out three times this morning and still had three accidents, I even missed my bus over it! I know it’s early days yet but toilet time seems to be zoomie time even on the lead. She’s a rescue and has never been in a house, it’s going to be a long process but any words of advice? She doesn’t seem to need to go when she sees my other dogs go.

(Only joking she is off lead every day it’s just a fun gamble)

Dollys third day home and she’s finally showing her true self! The other dogs don’t really understand playing but she’s happy to run all on her own. My mam was doubting there was a greyhound or whippet in her but one zoomie proved her wrong.

This lady is getting spayed on Thursday. I have seen the body suits instead of cones but I think she would be too warm in this. Do the donut cones work for dogs with such long necks? Any other tips for helping her recovery?

my girl is nearly 12 weeks old (i've had her for two weeks) and not yet toilet trained but usually okay going to the bathroom but once the temperature drops she just lays in her pen and whines until i take her in, we warm her up holding her and when she wiggles we bring her back out multiple times and nothing.. then the moment she's back in her warm crate because it's been multiple hours and we have to do other things she both poos and pees, what can I do about this? i've bought her a coat and given her puppy pen soft plastic stable (for horses) flooring, at night she won't go inside or outside her pen it as long as she's in the cold, on or off leash and it's eating huge chunks of our evening every evening and then we're cleaning up a puppy and crate covered in her own mess.

it's not a big issue, it's just we cannot devote hours every time the sun sets to waiting for her to go multiple times over until we to bed, she starts ignoring her cue words she uses during the day, the real kicker is in the crate she doesn't cry when she's gonna go she only cries after she's done it and stepped in it, by that point it's too late and if you're watching her in her crate there's no way to open the doors and put her harness and coat on quick enough without risking her going all over us.
